A rheumatologist is licensed to dispense the stronger stuff and they deal with this disease on a regular basis. Take a list for yourself of some of the other drugs out there used to treat fibromyalgia and ask about trying some of them ( once the rheumatologist gives you the diagnosis). Good luck to you , no one should suffer through this pain !

@A MyFibroTeam Member, most medications for fibro work differently for different people. There are many pain meds available for the fibro warrior during pain and spasms. Some of the commonly used meds are: gabapentin (Neurontin), Lyrica, carisoprodol (Soma), cyclobenzaprine (Flexeril), duloxetine (Cymbalta), Baclofen, and of course the usual narcotics: tramadol (Ultram), Norco, Percocet. These are just a few that are used routinely. Some meds cannot be used together so be sure to let the rheumatologist know what meds you are taking and what is not working for you. I wish you luck and pray you find pain relief!

Hi all, I just read this week that the CDC has issued some lots of Lyerica. It is disturbing to me that so many are on this drug. Our family almost lost a member due to this drug. I have taken almost all of the drugs that doctors prescribe for Fibro. I skipped Lyercia because of my family members' risk factor. I just got tired of the side effects and we ith my doctors' help got off of all of them. At this time I just take Vicodin for the pain cycles and have taken it since 1997 at the same dose.

I have to change my pain meds every so often because my body adjusts to the meds,so they don't work anymore. You might try switching you pain meds when they don't work any more. I'm glad my doctor understands this about me and wll try different things. Somethings we go back to one that worked well for a longer period in the past. We're back to Opana ER and hydromorphone right now. I stil have some breakthrough pain, but I'm not a zombie like I was with the Embeda.

I have tried several drugs & combinations for pain - some didn't work for one reason or another so we changed them & tried others. Mainly, you need a Doc that will work with you - I have Fibro, Sjogrens & osteoarthritis so I'm hurting somewhere always. I take methadone, cymbalta, diclofenac & Turmeric. Good Luck finding your combination for some relief.
