Methadone For Pain?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I'm unfortunately a "comp case" with a back injury, 2 failed surgeries, arthritis, osteoarthritis, nerve damage from the waist down, several nerve blocks, a list a mile long of allergies including prednisone, 3 years after being "injured" I was diagnosed fibromyalgia. Workers comp is really putting a bite on my meds and trying to get me off all meds, yet I'm still in pain, so today, at my appointment, the NP I see at the pain management says." We can try methadone. I've seen success with other… read more

Members shared mixed experiences with methadone for chronic pain and fibromyalgia, with several describing significant pain relief and more pain-free days, while others cautioned about side effects like itching, respiratory concerns for those with asthma, and the medication's long half-life requiring careful dosing. Many acknowledged the stigma around methadone due to its use in addiction treatment but emphasized it can be legitimately prescribed for pain management, with some suggesting alternatives like Suboxone or cannabis depending on individual circumstances. A recurring theme was the importance of self-advocacy when doctors or insurance companies try to limit medications, with members encouraging the original poster to make the choice that feels right for their body while being mindful of potential risks.

As with any drug there are side effects but if I'm honest here drs will behind closed doors recommend cannibis for the pain and if severe enough methodone too as at least it's a substance they can control. You would be surprised how much pain relief you'll get from something that's supposed to be illegal, but then cancer can be cured by cannibis so who knows how far it can take the symptoms of fibro? @A MyFibroTeam Member,
No I didn't have any weight gain or any other issues will I was on it. A lot of people have issues with Methadone because it is the drug they give to drug addicts when they are coming down from their drug of choice. But it doesn't mean that the doctor thinks the patient is a drug addict, they are prescribing it for the pain relief affect. I hope this helps you.

I have a friend who uses it for severe stomach pain. She's had several surgeries and s she's still in extreme pain. Because of her financial situation, she takes methadone for the pain. I do know that the pharmacies were hassling her about it but I do not know why. It's like anything else we have to take whether it's Lyrica, Cymbalta, or narcotics. They all have withdrawal problems. This is a choice only you can make. You'll be in my prayers. Hugs -Em xxxx

I have used Methadone in the past for my Fibromyalgia and it worked great. I had a lot more pain free days than I currently do. When I had to change doctors, New one would not refill my methadone. I would recommend that you give it a try.
