Gabapentin-side Affects

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Hi All! I was just prescribed Gabapentin, nervous to take because of what I read in the pamphlet about side effects. Has anyone taken this? What was your experience?

I agree with Silster. They first started me on Cymbalta and oh my God, the first pill had me lethargic, it was like a could not function. I was nauseated, very fatigue, headache and so I stopped it and called my doctor and told them what was going on. He called in the Gabapentin and I just started it on Friday and the next morning I had a headache and took something and it went away. But I'm still taking it and talked with the pharmacist and I was like you, not wanting to keep buying medication and not being able to use it. She said that Gabapentin has been on the market a while and she actually liked it better than the newer medicines for fibro. All of us are different and so we just have to see what works best or better for us. Hope that this helps. I also ordered me some natural herbs to try as well.

Hi hun!!
Everyone is different and you only know if you try it.... It did not have a positive effect on me. Keep in mind that the list of reactions on any medication are long and may scare us. Also understand that a lot of the side effects are rare for many. I stopped and I was fine and started on another medication that worked better for me. Don't be scared to try what can make you feel better, as you can see it helped @A MyFibroTeam Member !!

@A MyFibroTeam Member I have been taking the Gabapentin for almost a year. No side effects at all. I didn't have side effects with the Lyrica either. Couldn't afford the Lyrica after losing my insurance when I lost my job. Every medication is different for every person. I would try it for at least 6 weeks. Hope this was helpful

Hi there. I have been taking gabopentin for almost a year, now. It helps me sleep because I was having such high pain levels I was finding it hard to stay asleep and fall asleep. I am on 800mg, and have also read that for a lot of folks with fibro it takes high doses to make a difference. So if my body builds tolerance I increase it by 100mg every month as told by my doctor. I also needed another medication so I am also on 50mg of amitryptelene as well before bed and both help me regulate sleep. The grogginess effect wears off after two weeks. And usually when I increase my does by 100mg I have grogginess for the first week. But I feel like it helps me
