Failing Eyesight.
Hi Guys,
Does anyone have problems with their eyesight since getting fibromyalgia?
It may be nothing to do with the fibro but my eyesight has deterred dreadfully in the last 3years, I was wondering if anyone else has the same problem or is it something else I need to get looked at.
Thank you in advance for your reply. Love and hugs xx
I can relate to all of you/your comments. According to research I've done on a Fibromyalgia and eye link, dry eye is very common w/FM as is eye pain, light sensitivity, poor night vision, poor day vision. Meds can cause a plethora of side effects, and the two I got were blurry sight on distance and diplopia. I alrdy wear glasses because 33 years of looking at a computer screen has taken its toll. So I was far sighted, but now I struggle with nearsightedness as well. Also, peri menopause and menopause can affect your vision. Kinda ties in there with aging. I really am not liking how much things are changing with my body at this point in my life. It is hard to handle when you are dealing with a chronic illness like FM. Sorting out what is caused by FM, what is hormonal, and what is just getting old can be a challenge. The symptoms can overlap or be noted under each cause. I have my eyes checked by my eye Dr every year. About 6 years ago, I finally had to get glasses for reading. I had insurance to cover exam and 20% off the frames and lenses. I finally found a pair I could settle with. (Never had to wear glasses before, didn't want contacts.) I paid $500 for the glasses. I justified spending tht much on them saying--since it took so long to find a pair I like, I will be buried in these glasses at this cost. Well, two years later, those lenses didn't work for me anymore. I was mad!! The DR said, at this point in life, your vision can change again in 6 months and again in another 6 months. Well, in tht 2 years, I went through a divorce and lost that insurance coverage. Well, none of these places I called that do exams and sell lenses and frames wants to examine your eyes and prescribe your lenses into frames you already own. They want you to buy THEIR frames. Point: I don't buy expensive glasses anymore. I was at Bard Optical one day picking my jaw up off the floor after looking at the price tags on their frames. This young gal standing next to me must have seen the shell shock look on my face because she nonchalantly cupped her hand up by the side of her mouth to hide from the staff waiting on us in the background.... and went, pssst. Then she whispered: Online. Zenni Optical. Then she gave me a thumbs up and winked. I nodded. Then excused myself and sd I would be in touch and needed to get the money for the lenses (I didn't have continuous insurance coverage frm June 2014 until August 2016. Zenni Optical-- if you haven't heard of them, is the gateway to fashion eyewear at a fraction of the cost. Frames starting at $6.95. I'm not advertising for them. Just helping those of you who can't afford to spend a lot on glasses but HAVE to get glasses in order to see. I have 2 pair I bought frm them. Both were only $55.00 each with my prescription. I wear bifocals. They offer progressive lenses, scratch & glare resistant coating, sunglasses, any color or style of frames you can dream of, they have them. 👍
@A MyFibroTeam Member Yes I have eye site problems all the time. I had my eyes checked and the doctor told me that they were the same. No new glasses. Fibro is a cause as well as Lyrica, if you take that and I have dry eyes. Sometimes my eyes actually hurt. Maybe some Systane Ultra (Lubricant Eye Drops) would help. I use them and they help when my eyes are hurting.
It's always safest never to assume it's from the fibro & have it checked out... just to be on the safe side 😉
Having said that.. my eyes are sensitive to light, most natural light feels glarey.. I don't drive at night as I find it tiring & car lights can be blinding..
I wondered the same thing as I too noticed my eyesight getting worse. Plus my ears hurt all the time that I don't like wearing my hearing aids at home anymore. I always wore my aids.
@MaryTheresa. Hi Your eye doctor can prescribe good eye drops to help alleviate the dry/burning eye pain. If the problem persists, and you have severe dry mouth as well, you might want to talk to your doctor abt getting tested for Sjrogen's. (spelling?)
Has Anyone Else Had Nerve Testing Done To Rule Out ALS Or Issac's Syndrome ??
