Does Anyone Have An Issue With Feeling Like You Have A Thick Tongue Making It Hard To Talk?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Waterloo, IN

I have been experiencing an intermittent sensation of having a thick tongue causing me to jumble my words , interrupt my speech and at times I bite my tongue. I can’t see any difference in my tongue. I do not have excessive drooling.

I have experienced what I call a tired tongue and throat too. My tongue feels really fat and stiff. It becomes difficult for me to chew food, move food around in my mouth while I'm eating something, and it's difficult to swallow. The muscles in my tongue, mouth and neck ache when that happens. I've talked to doctors about it and I've been examined but nothing serious was found.
I watched a documentary on CFS years ago where the woman doing the interview followed a lady who had CFS for 24 hours of a typical day for her. She talked about having feeling exactly how I feel when eating and how difficult it was to chew and swallow an orange because her tongue, and jaw muscles became so tired and sore as she chewed. I could see she was having a great deal of difficulty finishing and swallowing that orange.
I hope this helps. My problem comes and goes, sometimes bad and at times hardly there at all. Gentle hugs to you.

Hello Ladies,
Special shout out to everyone! The question of Dysarthia brought me to Google to learn what this condition is. The condition has several causes for this disorder.
The article mentioned muscle weakness and uncoordination in the process of Swallowing food. Something caught my attention; The difficulty of eating, drinking, and SWALLOWING. Theses complaints have been floating around from many people here in our Family. Muscle weakness, and uncoordination is, or may be one of the reasons, some people are afflicted. I have had the feeling of thick tongue myself for the last year ot two. I had bit my tongue so many times it left a pea size lump. I did this often, making eating uncomfortable.
I presumed, a tooth pulled in the back of my mouth, slowly moved some of my teeth with little gaps, a bit larger. My teeth were always in great shape, but I had this tooth pulled and I noticed a lisp. Which came about in the last year or less.
I also experienced difficulty with food or drink, when Swallowing. I thought how silly, I have to concentrate on something that happens voluntary. The mucscles, to move the food down the conveyer belt, seemed to stop. I could not swallow I just sat there wondering what the heck! It lasted many months. And resolved it self without realizing normalcy had returned.

Of course, there are many possibilities and talking to your doctor may bring about a solution and a proper diagnosis.
Sharing your stories here, jars my memory, of past and present issues I just chucked it off to FMS. Live with it.

Warm Hugs, Love and Peace be with you all.

Good morning Dearest

I did experience this once, and on investigating this, my GP suggested that I may have been lacking Iron /B12/Magnesium hence I would also sip on lots of water.
Please check it out.
Thinking of you and remain in faith
