Has Anyone Dealt With Childhood Trauma Of Being Raised By A Narcissistic Parent
I know there are correlations between abuse and Fibromyalgia. Trying to understand better that correlation, in hopes to work on overcoming areas I still struggle with.
Extreme abuse. dissociative identity disorder from abuse before I was 5. Fibro started from a car accident the same year I wss diagnosed DID. Went on disability within a year or 2. Still in therapy after 20 years. Bad fibro flares only a couple times a year now. Yes, it's all related. Body can only handle so much stress.
Well, yes, Tamara . My Mother was an only child and used to be spoiled by wealthy parents. She was a beautiful child and was chosen as "Queen of the May". She never quite got over all that and we called her "Queen of the May" even after she passed away!!πShe wasn't terrible, but always felt she deserved more out of life. She let my super Pop know she expected more than he was able to provide !! It hurt to see her always belittling Pop, and wishing out loud she had married someone else !!! Our Pop was so kind, and honest, and worked so hard as a CPA to provide for his wife and 3 daughters !! He literally was there for us, and saved us from any awful damage !!

@A MyFibroTeam Member, I am sorry that you have had to go through all of that. I pray that there is some healing going on in your life. Thank you for your input, gentle hugs
Yes, my Mother was a narcissist. I was the first child in the family after my Mother. Mother had been spoiled by everyone since she was the only child in her generation. When I arrived, I got the attention she had enjoyed all her life !! She didn't handle it well. Luckily for me my Pop was there for me and he was WONDERFUL !! My Mother kept my Father's female family members out of our lives even though they lived near by !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I didn't realize how weird she was for many years !!!!! Mostly I thought something was "different" about me !!!!! I had 2 younger sisters - one was gorgeous, and the other was a genius - I had Fibro !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Now I feel badly for the family members that were hurt by this !!!!!!!!!!! I wish I had realized it earlier and been able to apologize to them and include them in my life !!! (I left home at 17 to go to college and then married a Navy Officer, so was not often near relatives after that .) I am now close to my cousin who I finally got to know when we met in J.H.S.!!! (Her Mother was my Father's sister. They lived in our sm. town, but I don't remember their ever being invited to our home !!!) Can you imagine !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WOW !!!! I survived by getting out of there, and getting very busy with 4 children and Military/Aerospace life !!!!!!!!!
Hope the rest of you can "come to grips" with a less than great childhood and move on !!!!!!!! You are on my mind !!!! Life is much better when you can realize all that "stuff" was not your fault, and not even personal !!!!!!! It was because of warped parenting !!!!!! It was something that a parent didn't possess about caring for others more than themselves!!!!!!!!!!!!!! (I didn't put that very well, but hope you can understand it !!)π

Yes, my father was a narcissist. Mom was cold and distant. Including my abusive childhood, have had four additional major traumas.
