Why Do You Think Some People Have Spouse And Family That Understand And Others That No One Around Them Seems Too?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Charleston, SC

My friends and family don't understand and are hateful many times toward me because I say no anymore and I don't have the money to do for them like I used too. I'm getting the idea if I had not done so much for them in the past and had required that they reciprocate to me in the past they would be a whole lot more 'understanding' now. I don't coddle them though and I don't beg them to understand or beg them to care either.
What do you think ?

A MyFibroTeam Member

yes and if you get a paper in 3 years from the S S I department you must put down you see a doctor every month or every two months ! or they will cut you off ! love and peace michele

Lack Of Understanding Regarding Diagnosis

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

How do people cope when a family member does not understand about the effects that fibromyalgia has on you, to the extent that you are being accused of faking it just to get out of work! When you try to sit down and discuss things you get told to 'shut up' or 'I have pain to and have to get on with it'! (Especially as this family member has been told options to treat pain but refuses treatment!)

A MyFibroTeam Member

I actually bought a book that explained fibromyalgia for my husband to read. It really helped him, as he didn't understand to start with and thought that I was lazy. Until he read the book. Now he… read more

How Do You Explain To Someone Without Fibro Why We Feel Such Intense Pain?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
New Jersey, NJ

I have a friend that no matter how many times I try to explain fibromyalgia to her she just does not get it. She wants to know why I feel pain worse then other people. Please.....someone......give me an answer to tell her cause I am super frustrated.
I have three teeth coming out to get my top plate and I know three teeth is going to feel very painful......

A MyFibroTeam Member

The best thing I have learned to do is to not keep frustrating yourself with attempting to get her to understand. She isn't going through it herself, so she is more than likely not going to get it… read more

How Do You Handle The Mental Aspects To Fibro?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Lanett, AL

I am used to being very active and being able to accomplish my goals quickly. Also have a big case of OCD! Now I can't get pass the extreme exhaustion that happens almost daily. I feel like a failure when I can't even get my house cleaned in a day. Maybe what I'm asking is how did you accept your new normal. Also, how did you get your friends and family to accept your limitations? I am prone to depression and I feel it coming on. Thanks. Wishing you one of your "good"days!

Partners Dealing With Fm

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Southampton, UK

I have been struggling like many for several years with various medications. The biggest problem I’m coming up against is what appears to be a complete lack of understanding of my physical needs from my partner. Are there any good books to help them understand how this affects me?

Does Anyone Else Developed Trust Issues Because Of Fibro?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Diamond Point, NY

I find it harder and harder to trust doctors or even people in general because no matter how hard I try to get through to other people, there's just a disconnect. I can't tell the difference from real or fake concern, I know us fibro sufferers understand, but what is wrong with everyone else. You can look into the eyes of someone you trusted with everything you had for years and then realize one day when they leave you that they didn't really care for what you were going through. They try to… read more

How Do You Respond To Insensitive Remarks?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Spokane, WA

I have a friend who does not understand my fatigue level. She constantly is on the go and says "I only slept 2 (2-4 usually) hours last night" . The thing that upsets me is she says "just drink an energy drink" on a consistent basis. I've tried to explain it is not the same thing as just being "tired".

Does anyone have any suggestions on how to handle these scenarios?

Thanks in advance!

A MyFibroTeam Member

I agree with tulip. Don't wear yourself out explaining the way you feel. Your friends don't need it & your enemies won't believe anyway. Good way to weed them out & be grateful for the ones that… read more
