Tylenol 3 - Doctor Bend Under Government Pressure

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Tampa, FL

My doctor caved to pressure from either BayCare.org. They are stopping dispencing of Tylenol 3. I am on Gabapentin, but that stuff is not good enough to get me out of bed in the morning to make it on time to work.

Has anyone gone through this, because of the conservative political crap? I am gonna try to get into pain management before I am fully cut off and ration out my last fill so I have time.

I have a strong feeling I won’t get squat from pain management clinic besides all things that… read more

I’ve just learnt Tylenol three is an Opiate. In Britain this is called Co Codamol. I’ve not had trouble getting this from my doctor. You can buy a weak version over the counter, in limited amounts. Already many people are getting addicted so I don’t think it will be long before this gets stopped.

I think it's a shame that even children have to suffer after surgery. And as far as them telling you pain is mental that is crazy. I knew someone went to pain management and said all they do is give you injections such as lidocaine. Which is a very short relief. To Peter you all are lucky in the UK that they have given opioids for fibromyalgia they would never do that in the US. They don't even want to give people pain meds after surgery.

It's too bad they are banning Tylenol number three. I know it is an effective pain reliever I was given that when I was a teenager. Have you tried tramadol? I could not tolerate it but I know other people have taken it and say it has helped them.

Harrison, is medical marijuana legal in FL? Could that be an option? Not sure if it is possible with your employer, but it's the only other thing that comes to mind that has helped me with pain.

In Britain it is hard to get Opiates. Given my history of overdosing, I threaten my doctors with this if I’m left in pain. I take Tramadol 50mg. I need to take three at once. I try to limit myself to three a day. Most medication causes me to get constipated, also in fairness so many people do get addicted. Some mornings I feel so awful, generally I’ll and depressed. I take Tramadol then. I find it amazing, it often lifts my mood, and generally eases all my symptoms. Even things like Sinus trouble, the pressure in my head diminishes. The benefits last about six hours. I try not to take anymore, if I can. Sometimes I’m forced to take three more in the evenings. I find no benefit in taking more. I don’t find Tramadol helps with my depression long term.Tylenol is the same as our Paracetamol. This has never helped me with anything, even tooth ache. We used to be able to get as many as we wanted of these OTC but now we are limited to buying only so many at a time. This is because so many people take them to commit suicide. Of course you can buy more if you go in different shops. I’m surprised there is concern about prescribing these. Can’t you buy these over the counter Harrison? Some companies Online will sell medication, and they get information about your complaint and prescribe. Other just break the rules. There might be a risk regarding quality. When I’m seen in the pain clinic, very rarely, they just bang on endlessly about Opiates, their danger and that they don’t work. I argue that they must help at least a very small number of people, and I’m one of them. They then say it is between me and my doctor and they won’t get involved. Of course they can’t help. They want everybody to have Cognitive Behavioural Therapy. The fact that the waiting list for this is endless, does not worry them. I believe this is extremely useful for many complaints. Research supports this. It requires a lot of input from the client. I tried this but it was not useful for me. It was ironic because my non attendance for some sessions was seen as a lack of motivation on my part, and the reason it failed. The fact that fibro made me so I’ll I could not attend was treated as irrelevant. I am so sorry for those who can no longer get the medication that they found did help them. Having tried every Opiate there is over the years, I have to say overall the side affects out weigh their generally limited usefulness. Despite my current success with Tramadol it never helped in the past, and quite often my pain returns after I took some. I find them useful for non fibro pain and other symptoms. Ironically the most useful thing I use is a hot water bottle. There is no cure for fibro pain, all the practical ideas shared on this site is the best approach. Love and support to every one many suffering so badly they really do not know what to do with themselves. Take care every body.
