Members validated the experience of feeling heavy-eyed and mentally foggy while reading, with many sharing that fibromyalgia can cause unusual symptoms like difficulty processing or remembering what they read. Several members offered helpful strategies, including switching to audiobooks for easier enjoyment, scheduling screen-free days to reduce sensory overload, and treating reading like a practice by committing to just a few pages until focus returns. A recurring theme was recognizing when the body needs rest, consulting with a doctor if concerned, and finding creative ways to still enjoy books despite chronic fatigue and brain fog.

Definitely normal, especially for our modern day lives.

Sometimes I’m just too tired to read and lack the mental energy to focus. I simply take it as my cue to rest.

It’s pretty common, but it is possible the fatigue and fog from fibromyalgia could possibly play into it.

Other times I have plenty of energy and just lack the focus. I blame that primarily on what the research says about our screen time. πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Screen time overloads the sensory system, fractures attention, and depletes mental reserves.

When that happens I treat it more like a practice, challenging myself to at least read so many pages. Eventually, I find a rhythm and it’s less work.

I also, schedule no screen days for myself. Which I’m over due for now πŸ˜‚πŸ˜΅β€πŸ’«

Off to read my book with some coffee. Have a great day πŸ“šβ˜•οΈ

Hi Donna, I found that it became a struggle to read so I switched to audiobooks so I could still get the enjoyment of books. Hope this helps 🌸
