Members connected over the challenge of exercising with fibromyalgia pain, with many finding that traditional exercise triggers flare-ups and makes symptoms worse. Several members shared that water-based activities like aquatic therapy or pool exercises provided the most pain relief, allowing them to move without the usual inflammation and swelling, while others found success with gentle stretching, seated exercises, or yoga in small increments throughout the day. A recurring theme was the importance of listening to your body, starting with tiny movements, finding what works individually, and being patient with yourself on days when any activity feels impossible.

Do what you can in tiny tiny increments. Look for seated exercises, they help with the pain and if you don't do that many repetitions of them you can keep the pain at a minimum. I have pain every time I exercise but this has helped. For instance, if you normally do 10 sit ups, cut down to 1 and work your way back up slowly. Baby steps :)

On my worst days I can't and don't even try exercise but on all of the rest you need to build up your strength. Find something you enjoy even if it is walking or shopping with a friend. You need to exercise to feel better but always be kind to yourself

The only exercise that actually relieves the pain for me is stretching. The muscles get extended and tension released. It hurts at first but it's a"hurts so good" feeling. Eventually the muscles and fascia become less tense and hurt less. Applying heat or a warm shower first really helps. Hope this helps you.

I am unable to exercise. My body rebels against me and I end up in more pain and flare ups. Weight is an issue for me. Working through the RX'S trying to find something to help just helped to put major weight on me. Which just turned into a vicious cycle on every level.

I have this problem a lot. But, I force myself to do 20 push ups, 20 squats and 20 sit ups a day, to work my big muscles groups. I break it up throughout the day, but I have noticed it prevents a lot of muscle weakness. If I'm feeling good, I go for a walk, or do some arm weight exercises.
