Fibromyalgia And Lupus.... Does Having Fibromyalgia Increase Chance For Lupus?
I don't have lupus but am wondering if having fibro increases the likelihood of getting lupus? I just have noticed that there are many people with fibro that also have lupus. I have CRPS/RSD and Chronic Fatigue in addition to the fibro. Just curious....
I have both. I was 1st diagnosed with Fibromyalgia because i was in pain 24/7 but when my organs (kidney, liver etc) began to be affected & failing, my Dr requested new blood work to check for Lupus (or Antibodies/ ANA) and it came back postive. Im currently on Lupus meds and I meds I take for Fibro are pretty much antidepressants. In speaking to other "Lupies" I've found that i99% of the people I speak to also have Fibro but then again both illnesses mimick each other so u never know until your doctor can rule out Lupus thru bloodwork.
i was told in the early 90's that I had Lupus, this was a misdiagnosis for me, when in actuallity I have had Fibro since my early teens, for me, the research etc. I have done, I think a lot of it is a guessing game for the professionals until something exacerbates or manifests itself. Good Luck and Blessings
Yes. Both illnesses are SO similar that it's so easy to be misdiagnosed. But like said before, my Dr KNEW I had Fibro (along w/ everything that comes w/ it CFS, widespread pain, trigger points etc) but he didnt know I had Lupus till I manifested problems with my vital organs and he ordered lab work to actually detect Lupus. Lupus itself is VERY painful and to have both (lupus & Fibro) is havoc on my body on a daily basis. I just keep my faith alive to stay alive and just pray that one day SOON a cure will be found for at least one!
Yes, Purplebunny is correct. It's more like having Lupus almost guarantees (there's always the exception, but I doubt it) you'll have Fibromyaligia symptoms. I also have degenerated, herniated & bulging discs throughout my entire spine. My mom had 3 dics replaced in her lumbar area. My doctor also told me back problems are usually inherited. Hope this helps.
Thanks for the input. as far as back problems, I already have problems with my back. Thanks again!
