Fingernail Problems

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Can anyone give me any advice on anything I can use or take to strengthen my nails please. I have tried the typical nail strengthening nail varnish but it didn't help. They either break easy, split, chip, bend or just snap off. Any suggestions would be great xxx

Members rallied around the frustrating challenge of weak, brittle fingernails that break, split, chip, or snap off despite trying typical nail strengtheners. Several members shared that biotin supplements and prenatal vitamins made the biggest difference, with some noting dramatic improvements in nail strength and hair growth within weeks to months, while others suggested checking for deficiencies in B12, zinc, and iron or underlying thyroid issues that commonly affect nail health. A recurring theme was the practical workaround of salon treatments like acrylic overlays or gel polish to protect nails while they heal, with many members emphasizing the importance of good hydration, a healthy diet, and patience in finding the right combination of supplements and self-care strategies.

Common reason for fingernail pertinence is deficiency in B12,zinc and iron. I think taking a prenatal vitamin is a great idea. Also eating a healthy diet. Sometimes malabsortion.think that's the word of nutrients. Also drink plenty of water. Not just liquids. :-)
