Do Spinal Injections Cause Fibro?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Toledo, OH

I have had two spinals when I had my c-sections. I'm wondering how many others with Fibromyalgia have had them for c-sections or other surgical procedures and if there my be a correlation. Am going to ask my pain doctor, but would like to hear from you all.

I was actually wondering the same thing. I had 2 epidurals with 2 c sections. First epidural and c section went smoothly. With my second c section, they missed the first time and went in multiple times. I had a spinal headache for 3 weeks and right after my headache went away all my fibro symptoms started. I was thinking about this and honestly think it may be related to the epidural when not injected correctly or injected multiple times hitting a nerve.

I have (as I am sure that we all) have been to many pain doctors, orthopedics, rheumatologists. There are so many different opinions. One doctor talked about arachnoiditis from having so many epidural spinal injections as the source of the pain. The steroid that was used in epidural spinal injections was used off label and according to the manufacturer's labeling, should not have been used in that way. Are they related? I don't know. I have also been told that my pain is related to the breast implants I placed in 1988.

Very interesting! I had an epidural with my son about a year before the fibro went full on, although I had mild symptoms for years before. Great inquiry! I look forward to any info you find out!

I had an epidural with natural delivery in 1995. After that I was unable to bend backwards into a bridge. I was wondering the same thing, if it causes problems later

Ive also had 2 epidurals with c sections in the past, on my second one 17 years ago the anaesthetist hit a nerve and i jumped was told to keep still, how can you ? Im convinced this is why ive got fibro and i’ve got nerve damage from it, i’m thinking the same it could be a link ?
