A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I've been on narcotics for 12 years, and have been off for one month I don't know if there's any correlation but I am so much worse now to the point that I will be seeing my pain doctor ASAP To get my life back... Is or. Has anyone Ben aware of the reason they say narcotic meds do not help fibromyalgia patients? I recently read the reason is because the University of Michigan did a trial test using only 34 women... that's the extent of it!! and because of that trial the Doctors jumped on it… read more

I agree, @A MyFibroTeam Member. We all react differently to medications. I also know that everyone's version of fibromyalgia pain is different. I currently take 2-3 hydrocodone pills daily to get by. Without the pain meds, I would be in tears and out of my mind. For me, yes. The narcotic pain meds work their magic on me daily.

Too bad @A MyFibroTeam Member. These meds clearly help some people and give them SOME quality of life. I read about how taking them might backfire, and do hear how some people are at the highest dose possible because they have become used to them. However, I think that means that there need to be a search for meds
or treatments that are helpful for that level of pain. It's unfair to take away medication that is clearly doing some good and not offering anything realistic in return. People with pain are not taking narcotics to get high but because they help their pain. I just hope the research on other meds (including medical marijuana) comes sooner than later, as I worry about the welfare of people who can't get by without these medications and I feel very badly for them, considering the continuing trend to under treat pain.

I go to a Pain management dr. My primary dr. said the gov't requirs that if you take narcotics that you have to go to a pain clinic. The first one I went to was very caring and helpful but I had to change due to insurance and this oone is not as good as the first one I went to. Just be honest and tell them all you pain areas and how fibro makes you feel. Good luck Soft Hugs

I do believe with fibro, there are times that narcotics are useful but not with the everyday fibro pain . I live in a one hospital town and the few narcotics I have keeps me out of the er. I get 10 a month some months I have to take more than other months , sometimes I don't need refills ; when flair ups come along with arthritis I need a narcotic to get my pain level down so i can function on a somewhat normal level. One thing I have learned fro this site is that what works for one may not work for someone's else.

Thank you @A MyFibroTeam Member! Very interesting articles. When I read it, I kept finding myself in the minority that they didn't really address-the few who are in the throes of heavy duty pain, still trying to find the right cocktail of medication to calm the pain, that ARE relieved by the opioids that I have to take daily.
