Cervical Problem Or Fibromyalgia

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

Hi. I am experiencing some neck pain and numbness in neck. I also have painful areas in legs , arms and back that feel like a deep bruise, the pain moves around, I never know what to expect when I move. Is this familiar to fibromyalgia? I am having another Mri next week on my neck, but in the mean time, I sit and worry about this. My back feels tight and burns and has muscle spasams most of the time. I have been told by 2 doctors that this is fibromyalgia, but I don't trust drs any more… read more

Hi Pamela, I hope you can get some answers on the MRI. At my worse point of pain my neurologist discovered all my cervical problems from an MRI. He blames those issues for my migraines. I still had low back pain, elbow pain, insomnia, etc. So my rheumatologist did extensive tests as well and came up with fibro. Doctors are good at giving us evaluations, prescribing medicines, etc but in the end we have to rediscover ourselves and pay close attention to our bodies. I had all the symptoms you are experiencing plus severe headaches and left leg pain. Couldn't even walk. Once you have fibro some Dr's want to blame it all on fibro or anxiety. If you feel you need an MRI you should get one.
I often get confused with what is causing my pain. Very difficult to differentiate, but when it is coming from the neck it feels like when you have a tooth cavity it goes to either your head or shoulders very sharp pain. Specially when you try to move your head to either left or right side. Then it starts spreading to your arm and fingers. Some fingers getting numb. Depending on how you move your neck the pain moves as well. Shoulders are always tight due to the neck.

I have pain that feels like I'm being stabbed in the hips, that sometimes takes me to my knees. I though it was spinal stenosis at first, but my doctor said it was most likely the Fibromyalgia causing it. I also have pain in my mid-back on both sides, that feels like it is burning through my body/or like I've been horribly bruised. I saw a chiropractor for awhile, but got no lasting relief from that. I've found sitting/laying on a heated lap throw helps when I'm in a lot of pain. I've had days when I woke up and felt like my foot was broken when I stepped out of bed. The pain was from Fibromyalgia, and just went away in a few days. It's a very strange condition to have. Hang in there! Hugs...

It doesn't have to be an "either/or" situation. You can have both a physical (ie bone/nerve prob) AND Fibro. I have degenerative discs in my neck..and Drs aren't taking the chain reaction seriously. When something else is physically wrong, the Fibro tends to scream. Please don't ever assume it's just Fibro. I just had bladder surgery due to having tumors (thankfully not cancerous).

after reading all these answers , I have to ask you if you have considered your neck pain and the tingling in your arms and legs could be a pinched nerve in your neck, possibly from sleeping in the wrong position , sometimes thats all it will take for me , and then I am in excruciating pain for days , do you remember what you were doing when the pain started ? and when it started? First thing in the morning? after doing something strenuous or maybe not even that strenuous, my neck is always the first to go out -hugs -
