First Time Seeing A Rheumatologist
I currently see a pain doctor and my primary care doctor for my fibromyalgia but my doctor referred me to see a rheumatologist for my chronic fatigue. What should I expect from my visit to the rheumatologist?
Pills don't work for pain! They might knock you out and you sleep but miss the healing sleep you need. The only thing that I have found that helps is changing my lifestyle. Less stress. No modern 'conveniences' and that means microwave, non stick pots and pans, plastic containers, canned food, or boxed food. Then get modern chemicals out of your life. Go back to lemon, baking soda, and vinegar to clean. No bleach or harsh cleaners. No fluoride. It's poison. No artificial ingredients or additives at all. NO CAFFEINE, not even decaf. It makes pain worse. I eat only fresh organic food. If there is no fresh available, I use frozen organic. Meat is grass fed, no antibiotics or hormones and organic if I can find it. I also only exercise in a pool. It's easier on the body. I use only loose cotton clothing. I use no fragrance or colors in liquid laundry soap. I rest 3 times as long as I 'work'. I don't fight trying to go to sleep. I sleep when my body wants. If it's from 8 pm to midnight and 3 am to 6 and 1 to 2 pm, that's what I do. The ONLY meds I use are my thyroid medication and a couple of times a year I take half a dose of Flexeril for muscle spasms. In between, I use Lamaze breathing to relax my body. It's helped tremendously.
@A MyFibroTeam Member Could you tell me what is working to control the pain? I haven't found anything!
Well like 15 years ago they started me on the 6.5 mg then moved me to the 10 mg of the regular ambien but it only lasted like 4 hours and I woke up and then they put me on the 6.5 mg of ambien CR the time release one. That worked better but you still wake up groggy. I can't remember if it was right away that I woke up after 4 hours or if it was after a month. I know it was pretty quick that I didn't sleep through the night with ambien. Personally I like the Lunesta better , you can see if your other doc can get u a script for that to try. But again that's me. Hopefully it will work different with you. But go right to sleep after you take it... I did some really silly things after taking ambien if I didn't go right to bed.. It amused my hubby lol.
Yes I've tried most of the pain pills, Lyricia, Savella, Cyambotia, and the other meds they prescibed for fibro that both my primary doctor and Rhemologist both prescribed both they all made me extremely sleepy and nauseated and my pain level went from a 3 or 4 to bout a 10....so they took me off them but since then due to the pain my blood pressure is up due to the pain.... Hope this was helpful
I am just the opposite. My Rheumy has done wonders for me. He listens and if I want to try something different, use more of one med and less of another he is willing to try it. I find that now the pain is under control and we are working on the fatigue. I wish you the best of luck no matter which way you go.
