Exercice

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering what kind of exercice you do to stay active. They say exercice is one of the most important thing to make the fibro more manageable, but I'd like to know how much exercice. Walking? Running? Swimming? Other? How many times a week? Which distances? To get an idea of what you guys do and whether or not it helps. Thanks!

Yoga, even grandma style yoga, irritates my back and knees. I use body rolling pin sometimes when my muscles are extremely tight. For some reason, cycling - not hard core, agrees with my body.

Swimming is the best for me..I feel almost normal in the water but I use some type of floatation device now because my legs feel weak or might spasm. I also walk my dog short distances, light housekeeping. I tried yoga once and was in terrible pain for a week afterward. I am going to try it again but hopefully with someone that understands fibro as it was a really long 1.5 hours! If that doesn't work I am thinking of looking into videos for stretching and gentle yoga.

Strengthening excerises and muscle relaxation. The chores I do at home is exercising too. When exercising the moment you feel pain, stop. If you over do anything you could pay the price for days. 15 to 20 mins a day. I will explain more in depth tomorrow. Be gentle to yourself.

I like to do walking and some yoga and stretching
I found an app that allows be to do a 5min exercise routine ( you can increase time) it tends to not overwhelm me
On a great day I do two 30 min walks and two 5 min yoga/stretching routine one in AM and one in PM
I think anything low impact and start slow

I saw a physiotherapist recently and currently working on a realistic plan. I started off with 8mins walking every other day, then currently at 15mins.

I also do chair movement excercise and recently started Fibro yoga excercises, again only 10-15mins.

I am meant to gradually increasing each week.

I am also trying to find hydrotherapy excercises. To be quiet honest when it comes to excercises it also depends on how I am feeling on the day, it has not been consistent. If I am able to do chores then I consider that as excercise on a not so great day.

I hope you do find the most suitable excercise for you.
