Does Anyone Know How Many South Africans Who Have Fibromyalgia? Do We Even Have Specialists In This Field?
I haven't seen any statistics on Fibromyalgia. The medical aids do not even recognise it as a chronic condition. It is frustrating because I have to pay for the expensive medication.
Not much support or info a few doctors take it seriously and majority take you for a loony person who is a hyperchondriac. ..
Hi. Unfortunately the medical aids do not recognise Fibro as a chronic condition. However, you can see a specialist or psychiatrist (contracted into the network for which you will not pay) and they will prescribe you the meds needed on chronic e.g. Cymbalta and Lyrica. Not sure what medication you are on, but I am sure either of these specialists will get it prescribed for you. Just not for Fibro condition though, but it will be used for the treatment thereof. You can also see, as Beeanz suggests, a Rheumatologist who will also also prescribe these for you. To have to pay for these yourself must be crippling on your bank balance. Hope you come right.
@A MyFibroTeam Member :- I am from SA i live under Randburg - I have most of my meds on Chronic I was diagnosed by a specialist in Wilgeheuwel hospital. Sh was so nice to me. You need to make an appointment with her as she is booked almost 3months in advance, cos' she's that good. If you call the hospital ask for the rheumatologist (fog brain) she is an indian lady/doctor gone blank.
hope you come right.
