Members connected deeply over their shared experiences with costochondritis, with many describing terrifying episodes of chest pain so severe they rushed to the emergency room convinced they were having a heart attack, only to be diagnosed with this inflammatory condition that often accompanies fibromyalgia. Several members shared practical strategies that have provided relief, including heat therapy, anti-inflammatory medications like ibuprofen or Aleve, prescription steroids during severe flares, cold packs, stretching, and muscle relaxants like Flexeril, with some noting that avoiding heavy lifting or carrying bags can help prevent flare-ups. A recurring theme was the anxiety and fear that comes with chest pain, the difficulty of getting doctors to take the pain seriously, and the comfort found in knowing they are not alone in experiencing this frightening but common fibromyalgia symptom.

I have been having chest pains. I was told it was probably due to my Fibro. They did send me for an endoscopy. I was told I have Esophagitis. Thank you for that information. I am going to ask my doctor about it. I did think I was having a heart attack. Gentle hugs and prayers.

I use to get it all the time before officially diagnosed with Fibro. And it is extremely painful, but it cannot be self diagnosed. If you have any chest pain you should be evaluated by a physician. HUGS💜

Yes, I have. Costochondritis will definitely have you believing that you are about to see your maker, I hate it.

I am in the midst of being diagnosed with it. Did the EKG, etc, etc. Right now it feels like sharp nerve pains on the right and left front rib cage and back. It hurts. I was put on steroids for a week. Hated the way those made me feel, but got through it. I can't take nerve pain medications so now I'm supposed to increase Cymbalta 30 mg. to see if it helps. The pains left for five days!! I was so happy, but then it came back last night. I didn't want to increase generic Cymbalta, but I'll try it. I've tried Aleve and it doesn't help me. That name was brought up to me. Not officially diagnosed yet.
