Does Anyone Else Find Concerta Helpful For Fibromyalgia Pain And Brain Fog?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Conway, AR

I am on escitalopram 10 mg and Concerta 36 mg. The combination reduces my pain drastically.
Has anyone else found this to be helpful? I take Neurontin (Gapapentin) as needed for bad flares.
I wish I didn't have to take anything, but it is like my body and mind are in slow motion and so much
pain it is hard to function without it.

I'm not suggesting that the majority of people with fibro have ADHD or autism, but rather that there may be a high proportion of people with ADHD or autism may have fibro. Like I said, there's only anecdotal evidence so far, but would love to see a larger scale research on the subject.

I was diagnosed with FM when I was eighteen. Back then they called it Fibrositis. I've never had ADHD or Autism. I believe it is a central nervous system disorder. Over the years of treatment I find well meaning drs are hurting us instead of helping us with meds. We all need to find what helps us. For years drs thought it was all in our minds. I have found that exercise helps me more than meds. I now use Quell for pain. A device you wear below you knee that is a twenty four hour tens unit.

@A MyFibroTeam Member Actually, I'm very interested in possible links between fibromyalgia and adhd and/or autism (I'm on the autism spectrum). There's anecdotal data on a link between them, but I don't think there's been any formal research done on any link. I know many people with autism and adhd have issues with being easily overstimulated by sensory input (like in stores or malls where there's so much sensory input at once), and I wonder if the this over sensitivity could contribute to our fibromyalgia which is essentially over sensitivity to pain stimuli.

I find the stimulants help my adhd (which is common in autism), but also my fatigue, concentration and depression. Hard to tell about pain since I was already on pain meds when I when on the dextroamphetamin.

Stimulants, like ADHD drugs can help quite a bit with concentration and fatigue. I take dextroamphetamin, 10 mg a day and it helps quite a bit. Of course, it only helps for about 5 hours, but it's better than not having it *laughs*. I'll sometimes take a 2nd one if I have to do something in the afternoon or evening, but I try to stay on the low side of what I'm allowed to take as many of these drugs are addictive.
