If your doctor hasn't at least investigated options for you or given you a specialist referral then you need a new doctor!
There are a number of things out there that can help with sleep, but first you need to know why you are not sleeping. Is it that you cannot fall asleep, or you cannot stay asleep for long?
Are you in too much pain to sleep?
Is your brain not switching off?
Are you stressed? Or are you not stressed but yet your brain is constantly working overtime?
Are you eating too late at night?
Are you having caffeine in the evening?
Are you taking in too much blue light in the evenings (TV, laptops etc)?
What have you tried so far to try and sleep?
Sorry about the 1000 questions but sleep is such a massive issue, it's complicated and differs for everyone. I've just gone through this myself, and it worries me when I hear someone say that their doctor hasn't been able to help them with a sleep issue, as sleep is so crucial!

I take trazodone. It is an old-timey antidepressant that just puts me to sleep.

You could ask for a referral for a pain specialist. They know that promoting good sleep helps diminish pain.

no caffeine, alcohol, sugary drinks 4 hours before bed, invest in some good quality bedding and pillows (i like goose down), make sure your bedroom is a good temperature and dark. avoid exercise and heavy meals just before bed. milk and bananas are good. try earplugs (3M 1100 i find are best). read a good book in bed for 15 minutes to wind down. avoid daytime naps. if all else fails get doctor to prescribe sleeping pills ( i use zopiclone on bad nights) though this is a last resort.
