I'm On So Many High Doses Of Opiates Everyday, Yet Still In So Much Pain......
Hi.....well, I take Nycunta, Duladid, Morphine and Soma everyday, four times a day (somedays more). I hate being on all of these meds, and I feel like, well, I'm on all of these drugs, yet still in so much pain.....how can this be? Do I need something else? Do I need to get off of them? I'm 42 and have been on opiates for 10years! When I finally realized that, I decided that I was going to cut down on my meds, getting off of one for sure (Morphine) and I'm doing that now. With the hope that if… read more
As an addict in recovery, GET OFF EVERY OPIATE. The reason your pain is not getting better and you feel worse often and yuppie taking so much is because of your tolerance. These are all short acting. When it wears off your pain returns fuller force because your body is going into withdrawal mode due to lack of meds (dilaudid is very dangerous, mimics heroin). The best thing for you is to ace all opiates, detox (which is not easy I will not lie) but you will be in LESS PAIN once that crap is out of your system. Coming from an "expert" in drug use and abuse, this is what's happening. I recommend working with your doctor to detox asap. I'm shocked you're on this for fibro. I might look for a new doctor. Also, consider suboxone/subutex. A new treatment for fibro and will get you through the detox period. It is the only medicine in over 10 years that has given me some life back after all the other meds and self medicating with opiates. Please take my advice to heart!
Good luck and keep us posted. *gentle hugs*
You should only change your meds if you have support of your dr as coming off some medication can be worse than the illness. If something doesn't work then you need to get support to look at altering your meds to see if anything else can work or what other treatments are available.
I did the merry-go-round with Soma, Dilaudid, then Dilaudid and Oxy, and Oxy and Fentanyl a few years ago. Bear in mind, I've been on some form of narcotic since 1995. I found a really good D.O. Pain Specialist who helped wean me down and manage the dependence and pain symptoms. Then he put me on DHE treatments twice daily for a week, then Suboxone for close to 9 months. Some people find relief with Suboxone, it's supposed to rewire the chemical whatsit (technical term there), andther up side is it's known to lower drug tolerances and some of the neuropathic response from the nerves that cause the pain.
Now, that said, it's a full blown, cast iron B*tch to do it. You will be in pain, it will suck rocks, then the muscle spasms and such kick in. If you can look at the end goal of being able to take much lower doses of narcotics, and better response to them (having them actually WORK) then I would encourage you to do it. It's something that worked miracles for me, and my pain is under control, not like a runaway train of high narcotics and low efficacy. I'm on 10 mg Methadone twice daily, 325 mg Percs when I need the extra help, 8 mg Tizanidine daily for the spasms and Lyrica 300 mg.
I'm on flexeril, gabepentin, and Norco. I really feel the worst when I'm out of Norco. Some may think is that withdrawal. I know it maybe some but I know my flare symptoms from way back. I can not describe the pain. I think the older I get it gets harder to cope. I know my weight has something to do with pain. Yugh
I understand, your body is used to those drugs. Have you had a full check up. Like blood test , all the scans like cat scan Mir an so on.. pain medication don't always help long term pain. It can make you hurt more.. your body wants more. But you can't just stop taking them you got to do it with your Dr. Help. I take some pain meds as needed. When the pain so bad I take. But I have a pain pump in to. It helps my legs an me walk. All that pain medication will hurt your insides. Kidneys an other. I know it will be hard but your life depends on it. Your body going to hurt more till it's gets used to being off them.. But there is other meds you can take..But work with your Dr. I'm not sure what you have. But I live in pain everyday, i just got to keep going. Lot times it's hard, I change my eating habits, I lost some weight that helps a little. I have bad days an really Bad days. Try Lyrica it helps lot of ppl with Fibro. But work with your Dr.
