Members shared mixed experiences with receiving disability benefits for fibromyalgia, noting approval depends heavily on location, with some receiving benefits in Canada, the U.S., and the UK, while others faced multiple denials. Several members emphasized the importance of having strong documentation from specialists like rheumatologists, listing secondary conditions caused by fibromyalgia rather than just the primary diagnosis, and seeking guidance from support groups experienced in navigating SSI and SSDI applications. A recurring theme was persistence in the face of repeated denials, realistic self-advocacy about work capacity, and the value of connecting with others who have successfully navigated the complex and often frustrating disability approval process.

Yes I have I was approved in 2010. They denied me three times before I finally received it. My doctor changed the wording to list the secondary conditions caused by fibro and the list continues to grow. I hope that this helps.

Hi Pat, I saw your post earlier about receiving disability for Fibromyalgia and I wanted to tell you that I am a member of a board on Facebook that helps people with getting disability. It is a closed group so you don't have to worry about anything you say being seen by anyone that isn't in the group. It's called Helping People with SSI and SSDI. If you are interested in it you can let me know so that I can tell the admin of the group know since it's a closed group they have to send an invitation to join.
