Is Non-celiac Gluten Sensitivity Linked To Fibromyalgia?
I think I may have non celiac gluten sensitivity. I tested negative for celiac disease and wheat allergy. I've noticed that I don't have as many flare ups now that I've gone gluten free. I reintroduced gluten to my diet in the past and experienced intestinal discomfort, but I don't know if that was just from being off it for so long.
I want to know if you guys have had success in reducing symptoms and flare ups going gluten free. Or if you guys have non gluten celiac sensitivity, or even if… read more
I also thought I was intolerant to gluten but my test was negative.I have heard that a gluten free diet helps with the pain of fibromyalgia.xx
I always feel better when I knock off the wheat. I also tested negative for celiac.
I had taken different steps to reduce my inflammaton. Initially,My asthma had acted up and had ended me in the hospital... and then found to have 3 lung modules... which It had to be ruled out that I didn't have cancer... went through pet scan... & repeated Ct scans... then thought to be scar tissue! So then I went off dairy.. thought it was giving me symptoms. That really helped. The next step was going off gluten. My blood test was negative. I've been having IBS and a hiatal hernia with some food not being able to be swallowed... getting stuck in my esophagus. So I have to be scoped both ends next month. My daughter has Celiac disease and my son was being worked up for Crohns. So the dr is asking me to eat gluten for 6 weeks so when he scopes me he can see if there is any affect on the small intestines to check for Celiac disease. To see if have it or if gluten intolerant. Believe me I have been having a really tough time! I missed a good bit of work due to pain & fatigue. So I think I am having issues with gluten causing my fibro to act up. But, everyone is probably different???
My understanding is that gluten can cause inflammation, so you may be on to something
Gluten sensitivity, celiac disease is a separate problem that people with fibromyalgia can have. I don't think we are any more prone to it than anyone else. There is a problem called "leaky gut" that is controversial. A friend of mine had it and had to go gluten free for quite a long while. In fact, she restricted her diet considerably because she had so much pain in her intestines. After a couple of years of giving her guts a rest she started to heal, and was able to re-introduce foods back into her diet, and she started feeling much normal again. She was never diagnosed with celiac disease. I've heard lately that unless a person is sensitive to gluten, they shouldn't cut it out of their diet as it could lead to deficiencies.
