Hysterectomy

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I was wondering if anyone here had had a hysterectomy after being diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Is so what are some of the questions you wished you had asked your Surgeon/ Doctor. I am absolutely terrified and don't want to forget anything. So please any advice or suggestions are appreciated. Thank you Gentle hugs to all.

I had a hysterectomy when I was 29 and I did not have fibro yet. If your having gyno problems you should have it taken out. That will be one less issue to deal with. Gentle hugs Hope your having a good day. DorisG

Last November I had a total hysterectomy, and have fibro for about 17yrs. I really am not sure what kind of questions or concerns you're having. I know it threw everything out of whack. I've had a lot of surgeries and thought thus would be a breeze Not thinking about how hormonal I would become. I didnt sleep that whole night was in a lot of pain and couldn't stop crying. Like I said a lot of surgeries was not expecting this. The nurse reminded me that I just had my hormones taken out when I was once again sobbing talking to her. It's not like that for everyone it does cause you to go into menapous which you might want to look into. I've definitely noticed that and it seems to effect my fibro because it's around the same time every month my flares increase pain wise. Not sure if others notice or fo through the same. I'm very in tune to my body so I pick up on that. The surgery in and of itself wouldn't have been a problem it was more hormonal and that seems to effect my fibro. Hope this helps. Gentle hugs

So sorry to hear of more pain for you. When I had my hysterectomy they did not take my ovarys! But still had problems then had to have more surgery to remove the ovarys 6 months later then was on hormone replacement pills. Hope you can get some relief. Gentle hugs Doris

@A MyFibroTeam Member Hi and thank you I am unfortunately have a really tough time I have had my period for about 45 days horrible cramping and beyond heavy. Unfortunately my Gynaecologist is away until September 5th but my family physician said the Gynaecologist is going to recommend a hysterectomy. I would like to keep at least one ovary as I really do not want to go through menopause I have enough on my plate already. Gentle hugs
