Curcumin works but because it doesn't absorb well without an additive such as bioprene (black pepper extract). I have used it for over one year. I use it because I don't want to take an NSAID all the time. It keeps inflammation down. When I tried to wean myself down from 1500 mg down to 500 mg my pain level shot way up.

I work with a functional medicine person who helps me decide on supplements and then I run them by my rheumatologist. I also have an auto immune disorder but now she is saying my pain in fibromyalgia. Another wonderful drug that takes all my pain away is Robaxin which is a muscle relaxer. It is made from guaifenesin. I have used flexeril before but I do not like it. The Robaxin completely removes pain and it is also an analgesic. It is not an opiate and is not considered a drug that one can become addicted too. You can do normal tasks on a low dose. At higher doses it can make you sleepy but it wears off quickly (2 to 3 hrs) it is enough to take the edge off and when combined with stretching IT really helps.

I understand that turmeric is good at lowering inflammation (on a general basis), so I take 3 capsules after my evening meal every night along with some other things such as CoQ10, Lutien, Chromium Picolinate, Essential Fatty Acids, and Milk Thistle. The other supplements are for my heart, eyes, blood sugar, lipids, and the liver. I have read that turmeric can be as effective as some NSAIDS in helping with arthritis pain, but I don't know how good the science is on that. Since I'm able buy turmeric from a company I trust for a reasonable price, I figure it's worth a try. Lately I was found to be deficient in calcium in a blood test, so I should supplement my diet with more calcium (even though I had been getting a lot of it in my diet, or I thought I was.)
