Has Anyone Tried Low Dose Naltrexone To Treat Their Fibro/cfs?
I am curious as to how this med worked for those of you who have tried it. Did it help your pain, energy level, and anxiety/depression? Any side effects? I'm struggling will all 3 again, especially with the anxiety. Thank you.
I have been taking LDN for about a year working with a functional med doc. I am off Lyrica which was terrible for me. I am taking lots of vitamins, supplements and hormones. I am much better. I do yoga, hot epsom salt baths, massages with licensed therapist that understands, also get trigger point injects regularly. Rarely need pain meds. I am much better but this is a journey for me.
My PCP's are big fans of either buprenorphine & naloxone (Suboxone) or buprenorphine (Subutex) alone. I take Subutex. I had to be convinced to take it after bursting into tears (the Suboxone is used for drug addicts & my stepdaughter died from a heroin overdose while on a methadone program). So, I was scared. But PCP's said "You need it. It can cause a dependency, but you'll never die from taking them." I took my first dose in their office so they could monitor my vital signs and reaction (I have a history of terrible itching reaction to opiods). My PCP is very knowledgeable and knows her stuff, so she prescribed hydroxyzine for any itching, which I take with each dose (I take Subutex (buprenorphine only). It sometimes causes nausea and vomiting; I take ondansetron (Zofran) if that's a problem (occasionally).
It's the best pain relief I've ever had! As the PCP's warned me, I AM developing a tolerance; may have to up dosage from 8mg, but that's up to my PCP. I was she said, "a lightweight," based upon my reaction to my first dose. I've been on it for 4-5 months now and it doesn't give me the incredible relief it did at first, but she told me that would be the case and as long as I am carefully monitored by them I will be ok. If I want to stop, I must do it with them, in a stepwise fashion, lowering dosage slowly over time. But I'm happy with the results overall. I was able to get completely off diazepam (Valium) after YEARS of being on 10mg tabs (1 qam, 1/2 qnoon, 1 qpm)!!! That was HARD for me to mentally let go of but was EASY to get off of physically with their help and switching to buprenorphine. No more muscle relaxers. (That's HUGE)! I have terrible anxiety/panic disorder/moderate agoraphobia. Still do. Compensating by just knowing my limits of how much time I can spend in stressful environments. I am basically homebound. My fiance picks up my meds. I occasionally go to local grocery by myself. He usually takes me to Dr appointments and anywhere else I need to go.
Anyway I highly recommend you try Suboxone or Subutex. Suboxone is especially non-addictive. The mixture cancels out the addictive receptors in brain (Suboxone).
Honestly I kiss the ground my FNP-C's walk on.
One note: BOTH drugs are expensive (no surprise there). If you have insurance you'll most likely be fine. If not, get your hands on the GoodRx app or request cards from their website or get from your doctor's receptionist. I pay $105-ish per month with GoodRx discount. But my FNP-C just got her psychiatric degree and soon will be able to write Rxs for these drugs and Medicaid will pay in that case. She got that degree because no one else has one in our area! So she could help more ppl. I love her and her partner.
Hoping for a Good Day ❤
