Anyone ever tried yoga to help withe the pain etc? I've just started and obviously it's painful but as is any new exercise you take up. I was just wondering if anyone had any tips on how to reduce pain or any advice on how many times i should do it etc? Or if anyone knows any good stretches i can do in-between my weekly classes?

Thanks! X

There is a book on Amazon called The Fibro Manual by Ginevra Liptan MD and she shows some good stretches and light excercises that are beneficial for fibro...it's very informative and it has helped me find a management track. I highly recommend reading it for advice.

Restorative poses are great because you can hold them for a long time. Invest in a yoga bolster and look up restorative poses. Doesn't matter if you do 5 minutes or 1 hour...start somewhere. Sometimes I just put my legs up the wall...or stay in child's pose. Most important is deep breathing...extending your inhale and exhale. Best wishes & yoga on 😃🙏

If you can find a Senior Yoga Class (almost all will let in anyone of any age), the stretching is much gentler and positions are held for a shorter length of time. It has helped me tremendously as the stretching is slow and gentle.

It took 6 mos after learning I have fibromyalgia for me to attend my first hatha yoga class. Once a week, 1 hour, it is breathing deeply with my body as I move and stretch...and recognizing when my shoulder are up to my ears! Meditative environment and quiet music, stretching and resting every part of me. I am feeling positive and hopeful, accepting and trying not to complain. Just what I needed to start moving again.

I started with YouTube videos that are short and have gentle stretches. I committed myself to both morning and evening yoga in bed. In the I could only do half of the flow, but did whatever I could just to build the habit; even if some days it only meant starting the video and simply lift my arm twice. I built more resistance and flexibility over time and now I am able to more and sometimes even the full flow both in the morning and evening. When I look back to 2 months ago that my body was so stiff and I got drained with 2 minutes of activity and now I am able to do more, I really feel proud of myself. Here are the videos that I started with. One more plus is that they don't have background music, so that is easier on my nerves. I have a lot of sound sensitivity.
