Lipitor Issues?
I found a few questions about this but they were old, so I wanted to ask again. My doc just put me on lipitor for cholesterol and my throat hurts and feels tight, as well as very bad upper back/spine/lower neck pain. I had read that statins cause muscle pain and I figured it wasn’t going to work out. Are there other cholesterol meds that any of you take that don’t cause fibro pain to worsen?
Here is the thing. My Urinary doctor who knows more about Fibro than any of my other doctors said in Fibro people the medicine works the opposite in us than in other people. The best way to get over Cholesterol is to eat plain oatmeal. It will bring it down fast. I got off of that yucky medicine a long time ago. Eat a lot of veggies, fruits(2 a day) lean baked, boiled or BBQ without sauce. Eat salads but Stick to vinegar or vinaigrette dressing. no dairy, or grains except oatmeal. Eat raw veggies, or steamed veggies and stay away from salt and sugar. You can have boiled eggs or scrambled eggs w/cooking spray. You will lose weight and your cholesterol will go away. No sodas or sweet drinks. Like it or not have coffee with no sugar, not even sweeteners and you will get used to it. That will help you a lot.
To ensure honest I ve tried several ha e up Dr took me off as all of them increased my muscle pain badly. .I just watch my diet and hope for the best !
Thank you all! It turned out the sore throat was actually strep. :( Very, very nasty case of it too. I didn't think it was ever going to end. I still have not started the lipitor again. I just don't think I want to take it. I am going try the diet mentioned by Sillygirlfun. I am curious if that doctor means that lipitor will increase cholesterol in people with fibro or if they meant in general ppl with fibro react the opposite to medications? I do very much have that issue with meds.
I cannot take Lipitor it triggers pain in my body so I’m not on anything now.
I don't know your values but it is possible that you can do without lipitor. You might want to discuss your situation with another doctor because often it is the at the doctor's discretion whether they feel you are ready for lipitor or you can wait. There are other meds you can try

Also, read about these medications and side effects, when they are recommended and based on those information you can also decide if you continue, try a different one or quit.
