Anybody Got Remedies For Tinnitus?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I know a lot of fibro sufferers out there have issues with tinnitus. I've been noticing it myself more often lately, but never for more than an hour or so until now. On Sunday afternoon, I had two instances where the sound in my left ear suddenly went muffled and there was ringing, each time lasting around 30 seconds before going away. On Sunday night, I noticed a faint, lingering ringing, and didn't think much of it. But it hasn't stopped once since then I'm on day 3 of non-stop high-pitched… read more

I too suffer with tinnitus.I take a lot of Motrin to subdue the nerve endings.I notice with Motrin the tinnitus is worse. So I assume the Motrin is irritating the nerve endings. Some of your symptoms sound like migraine behavior. I blame a lot of symptoms on the barometric pressure shifts;they are more sudden than before( the shifts) I guess with weather shifts,we have to be more prepared.Even eating foods can be a benefit.Like eating warm foods when the shift is suddenly cold.I guess it is about balance;if that can be achieved.Gods grace and prayers to you!

Sadly not in my case, I've had it for years now, the only thing that dulls it are things like listening to the TV/music etc.

My ENT confirmed I had ringing and hearing loss. I also think I developed it from taking Advil long-term for fibro pain. No cure but he suggested over the counter Lipo Flavonoids Plus. It’s mostly B vitamins and I did find it helped. I get it cheapest at Walmart in the eye/ear pharmacy section.

An update: I went to the doctor and he said it's likely I have a viral infection. Viral ear infections generally don't cause as much pain or blockage in the ear as bacterial ones, but some viruses can infect the cochlear nerve directly and cause tinnitus. After the appointment I did some of my own research and have come to the conclusion that it is likely HSV-1 (herpes simplex virus type 1), which more commonly causes cold sores. I reached that conclusion because A. I know I have HSV-1 and B. most of the other candidates would be a lot more obvious with other symptoms, i.e. measles, shingles, etc. In its dormant state, HSV-1 lives in the facial nerves. During an outbreak, it travels along the nerves to the skin surface and causes cold sores. But apparently it can also travel to the cochlear nerves. HSV outbreaks are more likely during periods of stress or when your immune system is occupied with another illness. In my case, I think getting my flu vaccine triggered it. Unfortunately, this doesn't come with any tactics for tinnitus relief. Viruses just take as long as they take to run their course.

I will be interested in what people have to say as I have tinitis and my ears ring all the time. I also feel the part of the bugs crawling in my ears.
