What Type Of Doctors Have Been Most Efficient At Helping Fibro Patients Manage Their Symptoms?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I have seen a couple different types doctors but none seem to be able to help very well. A rheumatologist won't treat me and I've been told not to waste my time seeing a neurologist. I've even seen a pain management doctor who doesn't seem to do much to help me
Any suggestions?

It doesn’t make sense that a rheumatologist won’t see you..Ask your GP for a referral to a specialist who will treat your fibromyalgia. I don’t see neurologists specializing in fibromyalgia anywhere or how it would tie into their specialty.
Although I am from Canada, I do know that the mayo clinic at Rochester.holds multidisciplinary focused classes for people that have fibromyalgia or chronic fatigue syndrome. Maybe you can contact them and ask them if they have any advice as to where you could go to learn more about your disorder and how to manage it. The aetiology of fibre myalgia is as yet not clearly no one and that is the very sad part because no one really knows how to treat it unless they specialize in that. Have you read the book called the Fibro manual a complete fibromyalgia treatment guide for you and your doctor. It’s by Ginevra Lipton MD. She also has fibromyalgia.

I agree with Markat, the best things to do is do a search for a rheumatologist who specialize in Fibromyalgia. I make sure that every rheumatologist and neurologist specializes in Fibromyalgia because most doctors do not understand the pain and discomfort that we are in.

Have you seen a rheumatologist . And has he diagnosed fibro. If so a doctor should be able to prescribe some painkillers to help you get through the day. Some doctors don't seem to know too much about fibro and don't bother to study up on it. Find one whose has an interest in their patient. It's a terrible place to be when you feel no one believes you. It can take some time to track it down tho.

For me my neurologist and my rheumatologist was the best, my neurologist was the first to think I had fibromyalgia he then said you need to be diagnosed by a rheumatologist and I found one in Melbourne, omg I was with him for an hour and it was like talking to someone that had it. He was the best.
