Losing Weight?
I've always been quite overweight but over the last year, my weight has really ballooned. I know it's mostly down to the pregabalin and comfort eating, but I am fed up with being so fat and I really want to start losing weight. I have bladder issues and am waiting for surgery, so strenuous exercise is difficult, but I'm up for trying any kind of exercises. My mobility can be a bit iffy (wobbly legs) but I would not say that I am unfit - I can do quite a lot of walking on good days, for instance.
… read moreI had to do that as well...but there was an embarrassing reward! I swam out of my suit between seasons. When the pool was open the first day I thought my tops and bottoms were awkward as I put them on. Oh no! Sure enough it got more awkward as I swam right out of the lined top and the way-too-big bottoms. Luckily no one was there and I snuck out to order a suit. These things aren’t cheap. But I was pleased and embarrassed. There are lots of choices to be found. Can’t wait to hear more.
You've inspired me, @A MyFibroTeam Member, thanks! I've been speaking to a friend who's also looking to lose weight and we are going to try a short walk round the Common tomorrow. I know that I'll be puffing and panting and waddling, but I want to give it a go. I feel more confident as well because it's close to home and if I have a major "accident" I'll be able to get back easy.
That is a question I would ask the physio at the pool they may be happy with super tight waterproof briefs and a generous pad. There may be a product made we three don’t know about specific to disabilities. I am certain you qualify. When I lost the weight I felt like a million bucks.I is so worth the struggle. People will do and say stupid things, it is your time to ignore them and get what you want.
I do aqua aerobics twice a week at my local pool and I love it. The water supports your joints and you don't feel pain like you do if you were out of the water. I also do callenetics once a week which is a series of very small pulsing movements. Hard work but effective.
Sounds like you have hit the willingness portion of weight loss: sick and tired of being sick and tired. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes and needed to take some weight off. I am only 5’ tall so small snacks add up to big sugar. I reduced the dose of some weigh gaining medication (under advice of my doctor) and exercised in the pool to start. Lots of YMCAs have pools and exercise classes that cater to people who can’t bear weight. It took me 3 years but I lost 45 lbs and I do not use medication to control my sugar. I, like you, was ready and willing. I did the research. The beautiful part about exercising in the pool is if you are off balance you don’t get hurt with a fall.
