Has Any One Tryed Genetic Testing: 23 And Me?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
San Marcos, TX

I have class at Fibromyalgia symptoms and have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia for a couple years. But I also have symptoms that are not typical for fibro, such as dislocating joints. I had a doctor recommended that I take the 23andMe genetic testing to see what other information I can get from the test. Has anyone tried this genetic testing? Was it helpful?

No, but I know several people who have tried "23 and Me" and found some interesting information in the results. As a result at least one of them changed their diet. He said that it took some time for him to absorb all the information and to do more research on what was in the file. I'm considering "23 and Me" because I too have symptoms that are not typical for fibro. I've had ancestry.com DNA testing but that doesn't give information on anything but ancestors - no health/disease/trend information. It sure did give me a lot of information on all my ancestral lines though!

The only disease I can find that talks about spontaneous dislocations are subluxations is ehlers-danlos syndrome. A geneticist can give you a genetic test to see if you have this disease. I have not found one that will test me yet. I have had doctors tell me that my ligaments are too loose and that's why my joints are popping out of socket. I've had doctors tell me that my muscles and ligaments are too tight and that's why they're being pulled out of socket. And then of course there's the doctors that tell you that you're not dislocating or subluxation, something I find very hard to explain when my hip dislocates in my leg is an inch and a half longer than my other leg. The only thing I found so far that helps is KT Tape, I wear the pro version, it takes the pressure off the joints just enough to where they won't just locate a second or third time, usually. I'm still searching, hopefully we'll have answers to are ambiguous body questions soon. Prayers and hugs.

As far as I can tell, there isn't a clear connection between my Fibro and the spontaneous dislocations, but I also have Celiac Disease and it went undiagnosed for at least 11 years... so the chronic malnourishment might have caused the connective tissue disorder...? Always more questions than answers. Hugs to you too.

I did this before fibro. It was really cool and interesting to see how my genetics were similar with others as well as my line. Some were spot on! Others im like that doesnt relate to me at all. Most of those answers are filled out by OTHER USERS! Not by genes. Its like a poll where you answer. Most youll see and go oh! That makes sense. Others youre like well i mean that could happen to anyone.
