This is an article regarding USA disability called social security disability insurance (SSDI) and what amount of emergency monies you are allowed to have because all money is considered an asset and and how inflation has altered the value of the allowed amount.

Healthcare is free in Canada to all Canadians “Rich and Poor”. Elective Surgery isn’t ( unnecessary ) cosmetic/dental, and most prescription medications aren’t covered. Waiting times are longer because no one is turned away because of lack of insurance or monies.
Each province has there own Disability programs, I’m from Ontario, so I’m on ODSP (Ontario Disability Support Program). I get just under $1300 CDN/ monthly, dental/vision is free (with limits) and prescriptions are covered. We can earn $250 per month, anything above is deducted by 50%. We can possess up $10000 before we are disqualified.
I know when was married to a man from Canada he was in it and he wasn't aloud to work at all but he did do uuber eats under table. We are blessed to have system we have and medical care we do have. People think all from Canada get free medical only low income and disabled do everyone else pays. Socialize medical not as good as y think. It sucks.
Thank you @A MyFibroTeam Member for the information. The Canadian program sounds more humane and less punitive than the usa program. The poverty rate of disabled and elderly has skyrocketed here. I also wasn't aware of each province possibly having different standards. In the USA, the federal government overseas the SSDI program but the states administer it. Like in provinces there, states have latitude. For example, I'm told Arizona does not add supplemental SSI but most other states do.
Wishing you a good weekend. 👍💫⚘
Thanks Calliegirl, for sharing what the medical system is like in Canada. That sounds similar if not the same as it is here in the states. The limit if personal assets allowed in the USA is $2000.00 which was set in the 1970's. The article points out that in today's value, that's almost $5000.00 so the already below poverty rate is now below-below-below the poverty rate.
Additionally, if you come into possession of more than $65.00 you are to report that. How does that even make sense if the asset limit is greater than $65.00. It's a very penalizing system.
It's a sickening realization that many of us chronic illness sufferers have to or will have to depend on this system for our basic functioning.
How do we affect a positive change? Ill and disabled and low-income people are maligned and stigmatized in many cultures instead of being treated compassionately. I think this system reflects this narrow and prejudiced view.
Hi all, I'm on SSDI and I can have anything I want in the back I have a car as well. It's SSI that you can't have any more than $2,000 in the bank that's different than SSDI. SSDI you have to go through the courts and get approved go in front of a judge this is after you get refused. Its not easy to get. I was going down the tubes before I got it. I had a great job I had some savings had to spend it all on all the other treatments that you kind of need for fibro chiropractor it was ok accupuncture really helped but you have to go for along time. I could go forever because I loved it. Now that they put me on Medicare after 2 years being on SSDI. So I paid into Medicaid too by entering into a trust. So I have Medicare with a Medicaid backup which will help in the years to come if more disability should afflict me they will be able to help. I don't know if I clarified anything but I just wanted to let you know. ✌️💜🌈🇺🇸
