Members strongly affirmed that weakness in the hands, arms, and legs is a common and frustrating symptom of fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome, with many describing difficulty opening jars, lifting objects overhead, standing for long periods, and experiencing tremors or the sensation that their legs might give out. Several members shared practical strategies that have helped them build strength and manage symptoms, including light weight lifting, stretching, aquatic exercise, acupuncture, and using adaptive tools like scissors to open packages. A recurring theme was acceptance and adaptation, with members finding ways to live independently, ask for help when needed, and focus on what they can still do rather than what they have lost.

yup same here. My muscles were weak and lifting even a shopping bag for long made them hurt and burn. My rheumatologist said I had the strength of an 80 yr old. Not something anyone wants to hear!

There were times I could barely stand up especially if I was sitting for too long. So yes, unfortunately muscle weakness is a by product of fibro.

I started lifting light weights, doing more stretches and in the summer I do aquatic excercises. Now I actually have some muscle and have a stonger endurance. That being said, I am still far weaker than the average person and of course I still experiene muscle tightness, burning, tingling during flares. but excercising and stretching my muscles has helped, and eating healthy, Another thing that helped me considerably is acupuncture. It helped my muscles and body in general feel better. It reduced flaring, but did not stop them. If it werent for covid I woiuld still be doing acupuncture and I sometimes wonder if I'd be better now because of it. I definetely will return to it after covid is over.

So there are ways to build muscle mass to strengthen your muscles and endurance.

Hope this helps.
Hugs,
Zoes

yes i have all of the as well as the tendency to drop things as I no longer feel them and throw small things against my will like bottle tops etc. I have both fibro and cfs. Its great that you have help to do things you have a limited capacity for. i have accepted that these things happen for me and I am just so happy I can still live independently with my gorgeous companion animal my cat Mary.
