Do You Think Fybromyailgia Masks Other Illnesses?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

I sometimes find myself thinking what if the pain i suffer with is masking other illnesses. Been really suffering with chest pain on and off since last September but it's normally put down to costocondritus which is connected to fybromyailgia. In a nice way the Dr said i was an awkward case because of the fybromyailgia and pain but I was sent for a chest x-ray that came back clear but still doesn't stop me worrying x

Unfortunately those of us who have Fibro must deal with the multitude of tests and scans etc to rule out the possibility of anything other than Fibro.
Yes it is very frustrating when the tests and scans come back clear. At lest your doc was nice about it.
Many are not so nice and call us "head cases" or worse.
And of course you worry. There is that off chance it just may be something else. Right?
The sobering fact is we need to educate ourselves on our illness and yes take those tests and see doctor after doctor.
Sending understanding hugs.

Sweet Nikki, sorry you're in so much pain. We can't always hide it, can we?
Like Desperate 27 said, I think after we DO get the fibro diagnosis, the easiest thing for doctors to do is just blame everything on fibro!
I've recently had a few things "found" that had been blamed on fibro for years!
I'm having nerve ablation in my neck for "fibro" pain I've had 7 years that now they're saying is disc/pinched nerves... So, ????
Sometimes Dr's just don't know.

Thanks Claire ❤️❤️
I guess it's just a case with us all trying to manage the pain but it just gets too much sometimes. It's nice to know there are others that understand 🙂 xxxxx

I did wonder if the mechanical back problem i had was connected to the fybromyailgia but I saw a specialist at Bath hospital who said no! He diagnosed the fybromyailgia but said i had a mechanical back. Sometimes when the back flare's up I cannot walk and the pain is so bad that on numerous occasions I've been taken to hospital on a morphine drip and gas and air. It's horrendous when I have all 3 issues at the same time for months on end, which then lead's on to the depression , picture below is how my pain gets me. My profile picture and this one is about a month apart!! There's not many people that do understand the chronic pain we all go through.
Once again thank you all for your replies and big gentle hugs all round ❤️❤️❤️ xxxx

Symptoms are not always Fibro connected. Any chest pain should be investigated properly.
I was misdiagnosed with costochondritis. I actually have scoliosis and that causes a lot of pain + my ribs get “ stuck”, and the pain is just unbearable until I can see my Physio who “ unsticks” them with gentle massage.
