Asked To Come Off Opiates (Solpadol, Cocodamol) By The Doctor. Have You?
Has anyone else had a letter from their doctors recently saying that they'd like them to come off any opiate medication that they are on? Codeine, Tramadol etc.
I am currently taking 2 x Solpadol (codeine and paracetamol) 3 times a day. The max dose is 8 a day but I don't want to really go to that or reduce what I'm taking. I am not being allowed any Tramadol or Nefopam to replace it and the other types of meds like "Pregabilin" or "Gabapentin" don't work for me.

I am not able to help you with specifics, but here is some general advice:
Keep a journal every single day until your appointment — and describe in details the specific type of pain your experiencing. If you know what caused that pain, make a note of that too. Describe in detail exactly how your life has changed because of pain and fatigue. Your sleep: Are you having difficulty falling asleep? Do you wake up in the middle of the night and are then unable to fall back asleep? Are you waking up from nightmares? When you wake up do you feel like you’re rested OR are you just about as tired as when you went to sleep?
Go over all your notes the day before your appointment. Plan to arrive at your appointment at least twenty minutes early. Be sure to have that journal/notebook in your car before the appointment. Check and double check. Make sure you have that book with you when you’re at your doctors office. Go back to the car IF you forgot to bring it in with you. IF your doctor is late for your appointment, use that time to go over your notes again.
When your with your doctor make sure you discuss with him everything you have in that book. Don’t allow him to rush you out or cut you off before you’ve had time to say everything you need to say.
I've just managed to get a repeat prescription for the codeine. I have also tried everything else and it always leave me either feeling sick or very tired or both. I'm now having severe insomnia and the doctor doesn't want to give me anything for that either so I have to order "Melatonin" from the U.S.! Thanks for the advice!
We are the forgotten people.
5o million people suffer from some form of Chronic pain. The opioid scare has turned our worlds upside down. Once politics got involved it created a mess.
A good percentage of the opioid deaths were not from addiiction but drug interations.
Lyrica and opioids can be deadly depending on the dosage. Antihistmines are also a dangerous combination.
I find relief from cannabis edibles and Kratom. Both legal where i live.
That’s very difficult. Seems to be a trend here too. I know here in the United States, they send everyone to the pain clinic now
I hate that for you. I would talk to your doctor and describe your situation. Hopefully, you and your doctor can work something out. I, too, tried many meds that did not work or I was allergic to. I was left with opiods. I’m worried as well that I might get a similar letter. I saw that both Walgreens and CVS were both fined millions for “over filling” opiod prescriptions. This is not good for folks like us who suffer from chronic pain. I believe addicts find a way to get what they need while we are left to suffer…makes me so mad..
