Does Anyone Else Over Eat When In A Fibromyalgia Flare?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question πŸ’

I find when I am in a flare I want to constantly eat junk food high in carbohydrates. I was reading eating in general and especially eating foods high in carbohydrates releases dopamine in the brain. This led me to wonder if my body is trying to relieve the pain in my body by inducing favorable neurotransmitters that reduce pain.

When I don't feel so well, I crave carbohydrates and sweets. Consequently, I now am trying to lower my blood sugar !! I do not want to have diabetes !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

No, I am the opposite, I don’t eat when in a flare up. Depends on how bad the pain πŸ₯΄ is, I take a pain medication πŸ’Š and just lie in bed πŸ›Œ or go for a walk πŸšΆβ€β™€οΈto relieve the pain πŸ₯΄.

I always crave sugar and carbohydrates not necessarily because I'm in pain but mostly because I don't get enough sleep at night from the pain but they actually make me more tired . They don't give me energy like they did when I was young and if they do give me pleasure it's very short-lived so I have to try to be in control as much as I can. Nowadays, I don't buy anything that has added sugar. Even breakfast cereals are just loaded with sugar and that keeps the craving for more sugar. I'm not sure what year it started , might have been in the 1990s that the companies started adding high fructose corn syrup to everything, especially canned goods, because they know it's addictive and what it does to the brain and when something is addictive, you'll keep buying their product. Please Google why is high fructose corn syrup so bad for you. Please don't buy anything that has that ingredient in it. You can avoid a lot of health problems if you stay away from it . However, you will find that it's in most everything including ketchup, you name it. I look for alternatives so that even the bad stuff I eat is not as bad as it could be and knock on wood my blood sugar is still okay and I'm in my seventies. Diabetes runs in the family. My paternal Grandmother Had it and I saw what she went through. It was heartbreaking.
