Misdiagnosed?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does anyone feel like they may have been misdiagnosed? I've been speaking with a friend a lot recently who has fibro and she feel she has and the more I speak to her the more I feel I may have been. Just given fibro diagnosis as there was nothing else they could think of. Another friend has mentioned MS which has never been mentioned by a doctor before but reading up on it I have a lot of the symptoms. Obviously I will be discussing this with a doctor ASAP as I would explain a lot. Be intrested… read more

I thought that for many, many years. Did a lot of research also. I do think it’s a frequent diagnosis when all else is ruled out. My rheumatologist does a lot of bloodwork which, I’m assuming, would show if it was something else. It’s your prerogative to have any tests run that you believe could rule out other things. We so have to take our health into our own hands. Sometime I wished it was something else so I might have options to either fix it or deal with it. Fibro is like a never ending, no fix, diagnosis! 🫶🏻🫶🏻🫶🏻

Interesting to read this. A doctor with expertise in the menopause has reported that many women she saw were misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia, when in fact many of the symptoms do point to peri/menopause. A lot of gps wouldn’t even bother exploring that option if you are still having periods! If you can try and see a
GP who has interest in women’s. health, I would do so.

I actually thought I had MS as same as you, when you check the symptoms, MS covers them. I saw a neurologist and in order to tear for MS I had an MRI scan on my brain and spine. Apparently the scan will show up lesions (little white lines on the brain) if you have MS. Fortunately mine was all clear, but if you suspect you have MS, state that to your neurologist and I am sure they will refer you for the scan. Fibro has so many symptoms it’s not surprising if people get misdiagnosed.

Thanks @A MyFibroTeam Member I've read a lot of people that get diagnosed with fibro later get diagnosed with MS. Honesty feel this may be something that has been overlooked or that I've not fought for myself enough
