Acid reflux is nothing to mess around with. I've had GERD since 1980s and it damaged my vocal cords. I used to sing in a professional band, but now I often sound like I've been smoking for 50 years. Singing days long gone. Go to a gastroenterologist as soon as you can. Get some medication to slow down the production of the acid in your stomach.

There are a lot of side effects to having acid reflux, but also the acid reflux could be symptoms of a worse problem called SIBO Small Intestinal Bacteria Overgrowth. I've had SIBO since 1990s, and although I complain to my doctor about foul smelling gas and severe gut pain a lot, he just ignored the symptoms and gave me a couple of medications that helped a little, but did not stop the return of the severe intestinal cramping. Now because I've had SIBO for so long, it has turned into Intestinal Metaplasia (IM) which means my stomach cells are changing into small intestine cells. There's several stages to this condition and I'm in the early third stage. The fifth stage is stomach cancer. I can't say that if my doctor had responded in a different way that I would not have developed IM, but there's other things he ignored that caused me to have surgery and that is why I left him after 20 years and found a new doctor. I cannot stress enough to you all that if your doctor is ignoring your symptoms, and you are living in horrible gastric pain for decades....well, just don't do that! Seek help from another gastroenterologist!

Cherokee - Almost forgot - ENZYMES - systemic enzymes - Zymessence - online- no prescription - do not mess w any meds. - suggested by my Endocrinologist!!!!! She suggests them for almost all her patients - we have them, but at an early age our body slows down in making them - EVERYONE needs these!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They have made a world of difference for me - pain wise, stomach wise, and fatigue wise, etc!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

It have found that for me, Cherokee, taking both pre and probiotics helps. I also got help from sleeping with my head elevated !!! I saw a gastroenterologist but he couldn't find anything wrong. He was supposed to be "the best", so who knows??

It's likely that you have acid reflux. I have a prescription for it. Untreated it can cause ulcers and burn your esophagus . Try taking antacids until you can get to a doctor.
