Members facing trouble with stairs shared that both climbing and descending steps can be challenging, with many describing how pain, weakness, vertigo, and balance issues force them to move slowly, hold railings, or take one step at a time. Several members offered practical strategies including sideways climbing, chair-based strengthening exercises recommended by physical therapists, perching stools for standing tasks, and stair lifts installed through social services to prevent falls. A recurring theme was the mutual support and encouragement members gave one another, with reminders that sharing struggles helps everyone feel less alone and more empowered to keep moving forward despite the pain.

Hi Peter! I don't think we're a sorry group of people. Think of us as fighters trying to endure an enemy that has given us a real challenge to keep on going in spite of all the complications and pain we have. You are a fighter too. We all forge on and do our best to deal with fibro and never give up hope. This group is filled with wonderful people and support for each other. We need each other because we know we're not alone. That's a blessing and very important. Hang in there. Sending you a hug.

I find that going down the stairs is harder than going up.

Yes, at times. Since my fall, I'm having more balance issues, at times.

Always use a handrail, if available, and take your time. If I felt dizzy, or in danger of falling, I'd sit down, if possible.

Yes I do, my muscles feel really weak and not able to take my weight up to the next step. It can be embarrassing 😳
