I've use a cane Lucy. I was upset when my GP said it's time you looked after yourself carole. That was nearly 4yr ago. So I hit it straight on thought oh well..I like girly things and I found "classic Canes" (cheaper in local mobility shop found amazon expensive on some) so I have lots of different ones all foldable..so I've everything from tropical fish. Dogs. Tortoise and Hare. Bumblebees to poppy's and metallic red gold autumn fruits. The one I'm using this week has been Halloween Bats..I find I can colour coordinate with my clothes and shoes etc. One of the fobias I'd got in my head about "wobble stick " my affectionate name for mine..was I thought people would be rude to me, say in shops example..how wrong I was! People ask if I need help? In shops..open doors..give me room get by in tight spaces..this never happened without my stick..I only ever had one negative and very bad comment..from a boyfriend few years back who said your NOT using that! You can hold onto me! Needless to say he's EX boyfriend now! I'd never attempt to go anywhere without my lovely wobble sticks..they've stood by me literally when my legs suddenly hit fatigue and stopped many a nasty fall. In May this year I found I could no longer walk even 15min upto village hairdresser..so I bought a Envoy 8 mobility scooter I affectionately call Calvin (after Calvin Harris lol) my daughter in law says it's my Grandad Grabber lol...mainly because people want stop I never knew in village before to talk about Calvin and how's am I getting on? So Lucy don't be down there's plenty of beautiful sticks and find the ones with decoration if you like them sort, and you'll have walking stick admirers and respect for sure. Sending you lots hugs. Carole x

If you aren’t used to daily movement, maybe start with only one daily short walk.

Anytime I haven’t been walking regularly I have to build back up slowly. And there is always seems to be a little period before I start to reap the benefits. 😅

I also try and be mindful of the weather I’m walking in, since we are so sensitive. 🙃

Hope you get some relief soon, Lucy. Hugs

Sometimes too much walking can bring on a flare. I have experienced that.

If you're not used to that sort of activity it can throw yourself into a flare. Starting slow and adding a little bit at a time is good bc it helps you adjust to added movement. Also doing a few squats throughout the day will help you build and keep strength in your muscles. I've been told that people with fibro tend to decondition faster so strength exercise is more important than cardio to keep you mobile and walking. I was having a lot of falls and using a cane a few years ago and I slowly started strength training and I am not longer using a cane or falling.
