Mine is weak and throat hard to clear at times

My voice has changed it has gotten weaker and more raspy. Sometimes when I talk on the phone people can't hear me. Don't know what to do. went to a throat doctor who said it's probably from projecting my voice. Or it could be from acid reflux maybe it's a combination of both. The throat doctor said I main thing is not to raise your voice and don't talk too much. Sometimes people think I don't want to be social but I'm just trying to save my voice by not talking too much.I knew a lady whose voice was so weak that no one could really hear what she was saying. I am 66. I have been exhausted most of my life.
