Members widely validated the experience of severe jaw pain while chewing, with many identifying TMJ (temporomandibular joint disorder) as the underlying cause, often worsened by teeth grinding at night. Several members shared practical strategies that have brought them relief, including wearing a night guard, using muscle relaxants when flare-ups occur, applying heat pads to the jaw, and learning targeted massage techniques from a physiotherapist to release the jaw muscle when it goes into spasm. A recurring theme was the frustration of sometimes needing to stop eating solid foods entirely, switch to liquids like soup or smoothies, or avoid talking altogether during painful episodes, with many members expressing solidarity and gentle encouragement to seek help and find what works best for their individual situation.

Yep you're not along there! I also get this really bad at times and can only eat liquid foods like soups and smoothies. Sometimes even talking hurts :/ thanks @A MyFibroTeam Member for your comments, I'm gonna ask my physiotherapist this week about a massage that will help, or maybe even exercises or something :) I hope you get some relief soon @A MyFibroTeam Member

I do, and it is caused by TMJ. The large jaw muscle goes into spasm and I can feel with my fingers that is as hard as a rock sometimes. My physiotherapist taught me a massage I can do to help relieve the pain. My old GP gave me muscle relaxants to take at night when it acts up but I can't take them anymore.

I too can't eat or talk because it hurts so bad. Tingles and my mouth fills with salava a lot. Taste buds swell and hurt too. I have a mouth guard as well. Kinda was worried it was more serious than fybro.
