Cymbalta = More Pain??

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

When I was diagnosed nearly 2 years ago I was immediately put on Cymbalta. My pain has gotten a lot worse since then. I have mentioned it to my Dr. A few times and we have played with the dosage frame 60 mg to 30 mg and back to 60 mg again and I swear that it causes more pain but he doesn't seem to believe me. The Pharmacist told me it is not a known side effect of Cymbalta, that it is used to treat pain and she has never heard a patient complain about more.

Has this happened to anyone else… read more

Don't consider yourself to be out-of-luck for not yet having Savella available to you. I have been put on Savella twice (by different care providers) and it was horrible both times. Don't know if it was just my reaction to it or not but it did not improve any of my fibro symptoms and caused sinus congestion, chest congestion, difficulty breathing - I thought I had a pneumonia setting in but those symptoms stopped completely within 2 days of stopping the Savella. This was not the "miracle cure" for me that it was touted to be. I think one of the most difficult things about new fibro treatments is that they are presented as the definitive cure, our hopes are raised and then when we try this wonderful cure it never works as claimed and often makes things worse. The disappointment is heart-wrenching and sometimes flare-causing. We all should remember to keep an open mind when trying new "treatments" or "cures" for our fibro.

Sorry. My "trigger" finger hit send and I wasn't finished. I also live in Canada and the reason I take cymbalta is because it's the only fibro treatment that's covered my pharmacare.
There came a time when I thought it wasn't working anymore so I stopped. I was horrified when the symptoms quickly returned. I'm back on now at 90 mg. And have settled down again. I'm going up to 120mg to help with depression. Anything over 90mg has not been proven in helping fibro.
Please don't stop looking and testing different approaches to pain management. An educated guess from you is better than an educated guess from your doctor. I'm open to sharing what I know. I'm working on my tenth year.
Hugs. Marsha

I'm sorry, I can't tell how old this post is, but my doctor said under 90mg and you might as well not take it. However, I'm pretty heavy now so maybe it's s fat to mg ratio. She also said unless i moved to Arizona, I would never find relief. Turns out you can't CST a US Visa or green card with" sick' as the reason. I found a new doctor. Sorry, got off topic. Anyway, patients respond to different antidepressants differently.

Savella has not been approved in Canada yet. When I researched for alternative fibro meds I found out it was only recently approved in the US, so us Canadian's are out of luck for a bit

@A MyFibroTeam Member I guess that's why the Dr. and Pharmacist say it is not possible for something that helps pain to CAUSE pain. maybe I am blaming the drug but my Fibro is progressing?
