Fibro Support Groups Are Not There For Everyone, But Are They Helpful??

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Fibro support groups are not there for everyone, do you all think they are helpful or do they just provide a platform to moan and make you feel worse listening to other peoples problems? Is there anyone out there who goes to a fibro support group, I'm thinking of setting one up and wondered if anyone has been to one and finds it helpful being with others with the same condition?

I agree I don't want a moaning session, I want it to be useful and to help bring people with Fibromyalgia some relief and some support to help improve their lives. No one is here to help me so maybe by being the founder of a support group I can give others support and help and in turn by feeling I have done something for others feel more positive about the future of this awful condition.

I have just found a support group in Tonbridge ,UK. I am going to join it in January. I have had the information through about it and it sounds very good. They have a lending library where you can borrow books about fibromyalgia. They also do social events like a Christmas meal.I think support groups vary so much .I joined one for arthritis once but only ever went once as found it to be scary seeing others at a more advanced stage of illness than myself also it was depressing sitting talking about our illness. It was a unofficial support group set up by a lovely lady in her home. But sadly it wasn't right for me. I would rather be doing other activities than just chatting about my illness ,I go to a health walk club ,where alot of people do have illness ,you can talk about your illness if you like but the main focus is walking which I prefer.

I would love to have a support group in my area. I am looking for a place to find ideas from others as to what has helped them. Than I could choose what to try

Is there anyone out there who would be prepared to answer a short survey for my daughter who is doing a fashion design course and is looking into what clothing would help fibromyalgia sufferers. For me it would be light weight, soft and no nasty bulky seems, hard zips or buttons. Things that are fashionable and not frumpy! If you would be happy to do this please let me know? Xxxxx

Wonderful idea. Sometimes you have to take control and make a difference for the betterment of yourself. I use this platform as fibro diary.
