A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭

Does any one know what high red AND white blood cell counts mean when you have blood work done? Anyone else experience this
High White Blood Cell Count
High Red Blood Cell Count
High Neutrophils
High RDW
Low MCH
Low MCHC
Everything else looks to be in the normal ranges
I have the appointment tomorrow with the endocrinologist to go over the results...but I usually like to go into my appointments prepared...or at least with research on my side. That usually helps things move along smoother… read more

High Neutrophils is a sign of an infection , they are a type or white blood cells. The white blood cells indicate an infection as well. Low red blood cells could indicate low iron levels. High RDW indicates another type of anemia which could be several things such as B12. Low MCH also can indicate anemias. Low MCHC also is indicators of a nutritional anemia. Just make sure you ask the doctor to go over each blood work and explain it in detail to you. Nothing more frustrating than a doctor that just skims over test results and not explain them. I had a rheumatologist that did tons of blood work, never explained it at all , then diagnosed me with a multiple connective tissue disease. When I call His office and emailed asking for an explanation , I got told make an appointment if you wish to discuss this! Now I have a new doctor that takes the time to explain every little thing with me.

Mine are normal and you may have some underlying conditions so just Google abnormal High White Blood Cell Count
High Red Blood Cell Count
High Neutrophils
High RDW
Low MCH
Low MCHC
That will give you a basic idea and then compare that with what your doctor says and also discuss the Google results too. It sounds to me like an infection of some kind but the high red blood cell count could be another problem so just Google it or check out the link that LoriLynn gave you.

High white cells can indicate infection

If you are taking any sort of vitamins or any other supplements stop taking them before your next draw they can cause false results
Also if you are in a big flare during the draw can cause levels to be off or if you were dehydrated so try to get retested and make sure you are hydrated and free of any meds you shouldn't be taking
Best luck
Pleaselet me know!

Talk to your doctor. Ask for laymans terms and do not leave there until you feel satisfied with an understanding level you are comfortable with. Take pen and paper and take notes, write down the terms of what you are discussing with their help with spelling. Makes looking up things later much easier.
Here is to a good discussion with your doc and good news for you. God be with you.
