Have You Tried Memantine For Fibro?
There have been a couple of small trials done in Spain on Memantine in Fibro patients.I know some doctors have started prescribing it off label (it's usually used as a Alzheimer's treatment) for Fibro because it has a good safety profile and appears to reduce Fibro symptoms at least as well as current treatments.
Has anyone tried it?
Thanks @A MyFibroTeam Member I've read that study (and a bunch of others). The side effects aren't any worse than gabapentin or amytriptalyine if you compare them, and it's tolerated well enough to be used in Alzheimers patients. All in all, I think it's a promising treatment. I just wish the funding was there for big trials on some of these really promising drugs.
@A MyFibroTeam Member It looks as though it is beginning to show some promise. It is being tested in blind studies now. Here is a good article describing the results so far. A lot of side effects, as usual http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/25218600
This is the latest article that I found on memantine.

I am seriously considering asking my doctor about adding this to my list.
@A MyFibroTeam Member I have heard of it, but only for Alzheimer's patients....I will have to research more about it!
It's a medicine. I know it's available in the US and Europe. Unsure about Canada.
