Does Anyone Know If There Is Provision In Americans With Disabilities Act?
I have read from so many of you that you have jobs and are worried about losing them because of certain inabilities caused by FM. I have a handicap looks from others and feel like they think I should be limping or using a walker (sometimes I use my cane); and I get really tired of defending myself even silently. Anyway, I am going to check with ADA and was wondering if anyone else already has turned to them for help with keeping a job, employer making concessions, etc. My daughter's employer has… read more
I got approved for Fibro almost 2 years ago and I now help others do the same. I help an average of 15 people every month in the Disability Approval Process. You can find me and message me on Facebook, or go to the link below to get some answers.

Under the ADA, and likely your state version of it, employers with 20 (?) or more employees are required to provide "reasonable accommodation" to their employees with disabilities. If you have fibro and it interferes w your normal work duties (as in your job description), you are entitled to readonable accommodation. There's more information on this on the internet. Disclaimer: I'm an attorney but this is not legsl advice.
My employer was very understanding.and helped often in giving me patients that were not as heavy .dr made me quit.after hospital stay
My daughter said that there is a Family Medical Leave Act (FMLA) which allows for employees who work in a company with more that 50 employees to have up to 12 weeks a year (w/o pay) off--they can be taken a day at a time, or what ever up to that much time as needed for medical care, dr. appts., therapy, at home rest, etc. Companies will also be reauired to meet needs such as wheelchair ramps if not already there and so on. Your HR person is the one to talk to. She thinks this is all over the U.S. And other than that the National Labor Relations Board may have info. A dr. can also right a note to inform an employer of illness and needs; and if you have a good employer and you are a valued employee perhaps time off can be negotiated. I can't remember where you live. She is in Washington state and the FMLA is a U.S. law. Ihope there is some helpful info here for you.
T dawn that simular to my story my work done everything they could I missed 30 days in 3 months so my Dr took me out of work indefinitely.
