Does Anyone Else Get Mysterious Rashes And Itching?

A MyFibroTeam Member asked a question 💭
Gresham, WI

I will get very itchy in different parts of my body for no known reason. I also have experienced burning circular rashes on my right arm and an oblong rash on my right shoulder. They take a long time to go away and they leave scars. The weird thing is these rashes so far have only happened on the right side of my body. I'm not on any new medications and I haven't changed my laundry detergent. I was just wondering if anyone else experiences mysterious rashes and itching?

I have only had one rash on my leg, right side. As far as itching, that's part of Fibro. Sometimes I get this feeling like something is crawling on me (spider etc) but there's nothing there. Like I said it's all apart of Fibro.

@A MyFibroTeam Member hahn Well that's no good! Lol. I'll tell you what else i do that helps my skin a lot: BABY OIL. I keep a bottle by my chair (it's just a generic brand too) and I put it on while I'm watching tv. It smells good and clean and absorbs fantastically. I don't put it on my face or hair but everywhere else and it has made a big difference in how soft and non dry/flakey my skin gets and eliminates itching, which prevents me frm scratching my skin off! I haven't noticed any more rashes since I'm adding oil to my regimen. I also found this spray on/leave in argan oil for my hair at Sally's (beauty products store). It absorbs into my hair and doesn't leave it greasy. I put it on at night and my hair is smooth and shiny by morning. Doesn't look greasy. I've also found another item I like: DRY SHAMPOO. The spray. If I don't feel like washing my hair, I spray it on my hands and start working it through frm the roots outward. It gives it lift and body and smells awesome! I don't spray it directly on my hair as it is a powder so it can make your hair look really dull. This has been a life saver in a pinch when I need to go somewhere. 😜. Ladies, gentleman, I hope you all don't mind the tips I share. I know they're not for everybody, but someone may find they work for them.

I happened across this article on ...Healthiculture-Skin Rash http://healthiculture.com/fibromyalgia/newslett...

Various groups of researcher have conducted several separate studies to uncover the relationship between fibromyalgia and itchy skin. Here are a few theories behind fibromyalgia skin rash and itch.

An immunological reaction under the skin
Itchy skin or skin rash may arise due to an immunological reaction just under the skin surface. According to early research led by Dr X Caro from Southern California Fibromyalgia Treatment Centre, in Northbridge, CA, immune-reactive proteins found under the skin’s surface in fibromyalgia patients were responsible for skin sensitivities. These proteins are believed to have escaped through the usually bigger pores in blood vessels and are seen as foreign substances in the skin tissues. The body’s immunity react to attack these proteins just under the skin causing the appearance of rash or itch.

Skin microcirculation abnormalities
Skin rash and irritation may also result due to deformation in the microcirculation beneath the skin. Research led by Dr Sprott H, found evidence of distorted structure and function of microcirculation, comprising of capillaries and blood vessels, beneath the skin in patients with fibromyalgia especially near tender points. These abnormalities disturbs the flow of blood to the skin and may be responsible for skin irritation, rashes and queer sensations in the skin.

Increased mast cells and neurological reaction in the skin
A Swedish study found that fibromyalgia patients have significantly higher mast cells in their skin as compared to controls. Mast cells are components of the immune system and contains chemical such as histamines and cytokines. When released, these chemicals cause irritation to the skin tissues around it. This usually occurs during a neurological response.

Yes, itching is one of the signs of parathesia, which most people with FM experience parathesia. Also, FM is known to cause rashes and skin break outs anywhere on the body. I swore for a long time I was allergic to my own sweat! It would cause burning and itching. My skin is sensitive to a lot of things. My skin, hair and nails get unbelievably dry too so I am constantly moisturizing.
